spooky dill season. The wifes :mk6: is in great shape and all. But shes had it for 6 years now. Its paid for (this year). Logic is to keep it and drive into ground BUT THIS IS DFD. Your logic is :wrong: Shes done well and has been very frugal. She has the new car bug and wants something nice. We've been shopping on/off for about 6 months. We've said to hold off for 1 year and bank her $500 car payment. :troywax: We've had a short list. She wants a wagon/hatch thing. She sees the allure of an suv for the future of maybe kids, after years of hating SUVs. She wants the finer things in life and shes done very well in her private practice.

audi q3
audi q5
macan/macan S. :waxer: :notsure: plus the upkeep seems to be a wallet hit according to everyone.
amg wagon :nope: to large and $$$ plus rare
tiquan :nope: the new one is too large. Not enough features for price point.
kia sportage? because chalupa is our friend.
cx-5 signature - on fence of looks. its kinda love hate
acura RDX PEX edition
:notsure: on the entire benz line up or product line in general. Its very confusing and overlapped with models/trims/specs.

Budget ~$40k new or used.

Things I want:
- 360 camera would be REAL nice.
-heated cooled seats
-ALL THE SENSORS SO SHE DOESNT HIT SHIT. This has been an issue in the :mk6:

Things she wants:
-"Girl sized" ergo for creature features. Easy to reach radio/nav.
-simple controls
-not bust steering wheel with 100k buttons.
-good design
-hid/xenon headlights
-sport looks.

She is afraid her family will "judge her" for spending money on a new car especially if it has one of the mentioned :fancy: badges. She is also torn on saving money on this paid for well maintained car and having a lil TREAT YO SELF :troywax:

TL;DR

Chulpa :dillerman: catches a nice trade in 2017 SQ5. 24k miles. It isnt a steal. Its a trim higher than what we looked at BUT checks a LOT of boxes.

Image

He in at $36k plus standard :dillerman: pack. so about $38k. MSRP was $62k. has a few good packages.

Im torn as the 2018 model gets the :jimp: digital cluster/dash with a soft update of front end lights to LED and a cleaner interior design.

I can easily upsell myself to a newer SQ5 and immediiately sought out other :dill: s. I see these are selling very well and the used market is flush with them. In 1 more year the newer 2018/19 will be the same price. They lose about 50% value in 2 years.

Dude ... we have one in the family ... it’s ok but it’s a terrible long term car. Also since you want the nicer one why not wait to bank the monthly payment and get everything you want next year ?

Why you say bad for long term? I have lots of VAG experience and feel okay with it. Whats the worst part of car?

The waiting IS a solid option. I/we are fully more inclined to wait then :waxer: hard. I also am very :notsure: on financial outlook and dont want 2 car notes if the economy goes full :nuke: If people lose jerbs, they lose insurance. Insurance is like 70% of my wifes income.

FWIW the family judgement on the :fancy: badge is a thing... in my case my own family is :aintcare: chill, but the in-laws are all :triggered: .

I'm really not an SUV dood so not much to add as far as the car itself goes. I had a rental Q5 once and remember my main take away was that it didn't feel any bit more spacious inside than my four door GTI which was un :impressive: .

So I have seen this car through and through, my stepmom bought hers new in 2011. It has been a pretty interesting experience...
0 issues years 0-5, as expected. Audi Quality is better than VW. (I did do 2 full brake jobs in 95k miles). Goes through tires every 35-40k as well.

Year 6, water pump and engine mount failed. Indy + Dealer both had the same $ they wanted $2k. This may be a bigger issue on the 2.slow vs other motors though.
Now we're approaching year 8, and a bunch of little shit started failing.
HID light ( mentioned in my post) easy enough to fix, but frustrating, as it requires air box removal etc. Plastic became brittle and clips are breaking
The oil level sensor has failed... and there is no way to measure the oil, and this thing burns 1 quart every 3500 miles, always has.
The Diverter valve also took a shit... still have to replace that
Doing an oil change is a fucking nightmare on this car, it has 16 bolts for an underbody pan that have to be removed, every time. It is just a senselessly complicated piece, (same as they did with the dip stick etc) it just seems over engineered for no reason.
Dealers are SUPREMELY EXPENSIVE. $199 oil changes sometime as high as $299, they wanted $2500 for the brake job, that I did for $550 with FCP euro parts (Brakes+rotors+sensors)

So if you plan on working on it yourself I say yes, that's a good option. But I am really dreading this car at this point in time... I don't want to constantly help them out with this minor nickel and diming shit.

It will be really reliable for 5 years, after that... if you plan on dumping it then I say go for it... Also to keep in mind, hers was $47k new, it is now worth 7-8k @ 8 years and 95k miles.
So the one you posted will follow the same pattern... it'll lose 30k in 5 years... That's not an insignificant sum, but if you're ok with that it's cool. ~$500 a month...

Lame.

A 2.0T is surprisingly quick and efficient, but anti Jeep is anti Jeep. She wouldn't understand.

Wife's Jeep is in getting the heated seat fixed and they gave her a Compass as a loaner. She likes it more than she thought she would, but she loves her JL.
