The Mrs and I don't think twice about driving 1400 miles to Florida to go on a cruise. We've done it at least 5 times so far. Flying blows now. I think 5 hrs is just about the break even point. It is usually better to drive anywhere within 5 hrs of driving range... anything post that it's better/faster to fly.
It's usually 1-1.5 hr flight+1hr to airport +1hr ahead of plane +1 hr after airport to get rental car etc... so 4.5hrs total travel min with no delay for a 1 hr flight vs a 5 hr drive and you're your own boss.
Add one person to my trip though and I'll typically nope right out of driving

I am not a welder, but was reasonably good at TIG ing up 4130 parts. MIG welding mild steel is a pain in the ass to me, I could never get decent at it.... lots of grinding involved. So I understand this reference.
Good luck.

This entire truck is going to go from nice rainbow tig welds to big fat MIG welds, and be heavier due to the mild steel tubing having to be thicker for equivalent strength. It'll eventually be cheaper and faster but a lot of us are bummed out because it's going to be a lot messier without the shock and awe of jewel like welds when people come through and see them before coating. Our current quality has sold contracts to a few other countries as well.

Solo on my own dime, I’ll certainly drive 8ish before thinking too much of flying. It’s harder to justify with work when any extra time will just be more time I’m working. I enjoy the freedom of driving.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 7:23 pmIf I'm travelling by myself 10hrs is when I start to consider flying. Now that we’re three plus a dog, we’ll drive most family trips unless it’s well away from the east coast, like 10-12+ hours.
Nice I agree with you and the MIL the navy is better as an accent color. Also agree that it’s not a battle I’d fight, so perfect outcome.SAWCE wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 3:05 pm Finally ordered a weed whacker (weed eater, weed whip, string trimmer.. whatever the fuck everyone calls them). Sticking with the 80V Greenworks Pro stuff. Didn’t get a battery with it since the mower came with two and a single batter in the mower has been good for 3 full mows so far with no charge needed. 17” trimmer with 15 spools of string and a little back strap, to help with weight distribution I guess, for $180 from Costco. Was hoping to find one in their warehouse and save the $10 or $15 they bake into the online price for shipping, but no luck.
Grabbed some paint samples to do an accent wall over the weekend too and threw them up.
I like the right, michelle like the left. We’ll probably do the left becauseWe bought a green, but it’s not as dark as we would want. Might test one other green to compare to the two blues.
The weed eater uses very little battery so you should be in good shape. Two batteries is plenty. Only thing I’ll say is I hate using my larger battery on the weed eater due to weight balance. But you’re strong.

Happy 4th, y'all!
Spent it with the in-laws, we went to North Myrtle Beach with them for a few days. Drank brews, grilled hotdogs, hung on the beach/pool, saw some fireworks, overall pretty solid.

Nah, not this time. Last time we were in the Netherlands we did the whole Benelux thing but now we want to spend more time just in the Netherlands. Gonna take day trips to Maastricht, Utrecht, and maybe The Hague.

Brutal fucking weekend. Kaeilani picked up hand, foot, and mouth from her gym or something a week and a half ago. Last Monday was the peak of it for her. Thursday, Michelle woke up with a sore throat and we realized quickly that she had contracted hfm from K. By Tuesday evening her hands and feet were so blistered that she couldn’t stand or hold anything. Even laying in bed they were itching and burning so badly that she couldn’t sleep. Friday was worse. Saturday I was able to pick up some gabapentin for her from the pharmacy and that provided a little relief. She was actually able to sleep that night. Yesterday things took a quick turn for the better and by the end of the day she was mobile again.
Kaeilani did great sleeping through fireworks on Friday. Our neighborhood pops off and it fucking sucks. Widow rattling explosions every 2-3 minutes from 9pm until 1am. Dog was terrified like the last two years. Going to try some earplug things for her next year. After the fireworks ended, Kaeilani woke up for like 30 minutes uncomfortable because she’s teething. Michelle couldn’t get out of bed, so I’ve done all the wakings and shit on top of just running the show and caring for both of them the last few days.
I’m exhausted.
