Yea. I mean they are really coming down lately. I’d keep my eye out.

As I mentioned in another thread. 911s and caymans are at dealers. This was completely a non thing for 4 years
I guess I will keep an eye out. No rush, I'd actually like to buy the right thing and hold onto it for a while. Deal chasing and compromises lead to :plac: more often than not.
:fuckyeah: I definitely don't regret the extra pain and suffering +$5K I paid to get the whorange 86. Hopefully if you hold out you can find a nicely specified one, that C&B :dill: seems OK, but black is quite meh.

So, :wtf: is a T versus an S versus whatever else is in play here? All of these cars are turBRO? Base Carrera is :poop: ? What's your ideal spec?

I dig 911s but man do they have a ton of trims/packages and I can't afford, so haven't bothered to look. All I know is:
Base < S < GTS < Turbo if street/flex or GT3 if track/canyon weekend thing

Base < S < GTS < Turbo if street/flex or GT3 if track/canyon weekend thing
Carrera (4) - coupe, targa, cab
Carrera T - coupe only
Carrera S (4S) - coupe, targa, cab
Carrera GTS (4GTS) - coupe, targa, cab
Turbo - coupe, cab
Turbo S - coupe, cab
GT3 (Touring) - Coupe
GT3RS (ST) - Coupe

GT product is the only NA, everything else is turbo. Each bump up in trim gets ~30-40 HP. Base car is plenty quick enough.

Across the brand, the T models (Touring) are enthusiast spec base model powered cars - usually adding sport suspension, exhaust and interior trims.

The jump from GTS is a fork in the road. You either go down the Turbo fork for the ultimate street car weapons, or down the GT fork for the ultimate track car weapons.

Random specialty models above and beyond the Turbo level, like Dakar (juiced up 4S), Sport Classic (Manual 911 Turbo), Speedster (open top GT3).

The T is the only model for us mortals. Porsche was fucking around with the specs and wouldn’t let the manual for example be down at the cheaper levels. (Such as now)

The T is the only model that was/is somewhat attainable in Porsche land and comes in cool colors a differentiated interior and :manuel: all around 110-140k (when new properly equipped depending on year )

All “proper” aka N/A GT 911s start with a $2 in their 6 figure price tag used. Forget new because you have to build a relationshit by buying 5-10 cayennes and Macans and lose double what the markup on the used would be before being “privileged” an allocation at retail.
Gt3 is 270
Gt3 touring 300
Gt3 rs is 450
S/T is around 550-650
Dakar is 370

The cool thing about the T is, if you're okay with modding, you can swap in the turbos from the S/GTS and get the same power potential but with the extra lightness of the T. It's definitely my favorite spec.

and you'll kiss any kind of engine warranty goodbye.

PCNA has us cracking down on just about anything aftermarket, hard, even exhausts. We're nowhere near as mod friendly as we used to be.

Must be :manuel: I miss it, and don't care that it's slower. Non negotiable.

The T is a really neat spec. To me, it's like what I'd want to do to a base car to make it OEM+ for me. They also happen to have a lot of neat colors, unlike other trims. I REALLY want a real color, not black, white, silver, or gray (though Camdalf's Rich German Cousin could be :megusta: with a fun interior)

Base power will be ample, and I have no interest in modding anything. I keep the truck around to scratch the tinkering bug.

For the money, I think a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is the better option for the street over a 992 C2/C4 or T. I think it's more fun to drive.

Thanks, between this and the other responses, I think I understand.

T seems like a good bet... :manuel: , colors, no useless huge powah, 'reasonable' price tag... Go forth and conquer, Chris! The green one Max posted the other day was hot AF.

Tis is why I brought up the Boxster Spyder (isn't that the same but 'vert?). Evidently the women of this forum think that Boxsters/Caymans are for the blue abusers of the SF streets and embarrassing/fake Poorsches.

GT4 and Spyder are done forever, there's a limited run of RS models coming through. The roof is cumbersome and while it looks great with it off, it's just fiddly and annoying.

Is there a Boxster GTS 4.0? This seems like the :tits: Cayman as well. I've never driven a 911 but the couple of Boxster/Cayman cars were :jizz: worthy driving experiences.

The 982.2 Boxster GTS is a 4 liter. But it's not the 4 liter from the GT cars - it's a punched out Carrera engine. First gen 982 GTS was a turbo 4

For a 100% fun car with minimal to no day to day driving, is the roof that bad? I'd probably leave it off except for in the winter while it's in storage to keep the interior clean.

I'm really intrigued by the Spyder for some reason. Love the way it looks, the purpose of it, would be a 5/7 option potentially.

981 Spyder is the best sounding car of the generation - even over the GT4. That's the sweet spot of value - that platform was dialed.

Yep, and I think that's what I want. Something that sounds awesome, eager to be wrung through the gears, fast but not scary, tossable and balanced. I've read some old reviews of the 981 Spyder, and it seems to really hit that.

Visceral, sensory, engaging. I really want something like that again.

My 944 Turbo was bonkers and I'm still chasing that feeling a bit. That thing was direct, LOUD, and so visceral that I'd be shaking with adrenaline after a spirited canyon road drive. My C5 was brutally fast and defied physics with handling, but just never gave me that raw emotional feeling of the 944.
