I dig 911s but man do they have a ton of trims/packages and I can't afford, so haven't bothered to look. All I know is:
Base < S < GTS < Turbo if street/flex or GT3 if track/canyon weekend thing
Nice car, no oxcart tranny doe.Melon2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 1:36 pm Oh look, it's Gandalf's rich, German cousin:

The T is the only model for us mortals. Porsche was fucking around with the specs and wouldn’t let the manual for example be down at the cheaper levels. Carrera T - coupe only
Carrera S (4S) - coupe, targa, cab
Carrera GTS (4GTS) - coupe, targa, cab
Turbo - coupe, cab
Turbo S - coupe, cab
GT3 (Touring) - Coupe
GT3RS (ST) - Coupe
GT product is the only NA, everything else is turbo. Each bump up in trim gets ~30-40 HP. Base car is plenty quick enough.
Across the brand, the T models (Touring) are enthusiast spec base model powered cars - usually adding sport suspension, exhaust and interior trims.
The jump from GTS is a fork in the road. You either go down the Turbo fork for the ultimate street car weapons, or down the GT fork for the ultimate track car weapons.
Random specialty models above and beyond the Turbo level, like Dakar (juiced up 4S), Sport Classic (Manual 911 Turbo), Speedster (open top GT3).
Tis is why I brought up the Boxster Spyder (isn't that the same but 'vert?). Evidently the women of this forum think that Boxsters/Caymans are for the blue abusers of the SF streets and embarrassing/fake Poorsches.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:05 pm For the money, I think a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is the better option for the street over a 992 C2/C4 or T. GT4 and Spyder are done forever, there's a limited run of RS models coming through. The roof is cumbersome and while it looks great with it off, it's just fiddly and annoying.D Griff wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:08 pmTis is why I brought up the Boxster Spyder (isn't that the same but 'vert?). What a world we live in.
Is there a Boxster GTS 4.0? This seems like thefledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:13 pmGT4 and Spyder are done forever, there's a limited run of RS models coming through. The roof is cumbersome and while it looks great with it off, it's just fiddly and annoying.
The 982.2 Boxster GTS is a 4 liter. But it's not the 4 liter from the GT cars - it's a punched out Carrera engine. First gen 982 GTS was a turbo 4D Griff wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:36 pmIs there a Boxster GTS 4.0? This seems like thefledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:13 pm

worthy driving experiences.
For a 100% fun car with minimal to no day to day driving, is the roof that bad? I'd probably leave it off except for in the winter while it's in storage to keep the interior clean.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:13 pmGT4 and Spyder are done forever, there's a limited run of RS models coming through. No, that's the intended use for it.ChrisoftheNorth wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:43 pmFor a 100% fun car with minimal to no day to day driving, is the roof that bad? I'm really intrigued by the Spyder for some reason. Love the way it looks, the purpose of it, would be a 5/7 option potentially.
I'm thinking about a 2018 or 19. They don't have a warranty anyway.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:43 pm and you'll kiss any kind of engine warranty goodbye.
PCNA has us cracking down on just about anything aftermarket, hard, even exhausts. We're nowhere near as mod friendly as we used to be.
Good luck at the PCA events after you swap your LS3 into an 81 Berlinetta.coogles wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:49 pmI'm thinking about a 2018 or 19. They don't have a warranty anyway.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:43 pm and you'll kiss any kind of engine warranty goodbye.

Yep, and I think that's what I want. Something that sounds awesome, eager to be wrung through the gears, fast but not scary, tossable and balanced. I've read some old reviews of the 981 Spyder, and it seems to really hit that.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:49 pm 981 Spyder is the best sounding car of the generation - even over the GT4. That's the sweet spot of value - that platform was dialed.
