Well 88k + BAT fee... is still close to 100k.... and its almost 10 years old. Tread carefully. You get unobtanium P car parts with that one also.ChrisoftheNorth wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 12:03 pmFor some reason I thought these were all deep six figures unobtanium because limited production p-car.

I'm with you. I rented a 981 years ago and the intake/mechanical noise was incredible. The spider looks fucking amazing but the 981 is so good in every way I don't think I'd want to limit it's usability by getting one with that roof.

Why not just get a Boxster GTS 4.slow? I think the SPYDDERR carries a wild premium for essentially nothing. But it is a cOlLeCtiBlE so it may keep long term depreciation down a bit... IMO the newer with porsche the better still.

Yea I think "pinnacle" sports car would be something like a GT3 or GT3 RS or ST but IMO they are not worth their asking prices and feel too fragile/special to enjoy without being a billionaire. Which is why I think a Miata/BRZ86 and maybe even a low level boxster are true enjoyable sports cars along with the "///M" squad.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 10:04 ambut he said pinnacle sports car... I get the argument that hyper cars and such aren't really sports cars, hence the Spyder. That is pretty pinnacle to me. I do think there's an argument for a Lotus though. I'm
on the C8 as they're quite big and edging more to the super car area, but Corvettes also. Having owned a Miata and a Corvette, the Corvette was just like... a fast Miata. I think if given the opportunity, I'd get a Corvette again before a Miata. I'm also tall

The Boxster is the way unless you just really want a 911 because you want a 911. I've never driven a 911 though, so probablyChrisoftheNorth wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 12:03 pmFor some reason I thought these were all deep six figures unobtanium because limited production p-car.

I will agree with Johnny though, the shifter feel in Porsches is ass. Come at me.

Those are incredible and I'd probably go with a newer one of those for the same price for less headache if you actually want to drive it.
Agreed on the

I like using auction sites to help frame up value ranges, indeed they tend to be on the high end.

I've just always wanted one. I've driven a 996 and 997 in the past and really enjoyed them. Worth the hype? Alsoclaims Boxsters aren't "real Porsches" so she might kill it TBH. The Spyder could be sold as a "Porsche Spyder" as it says on the rear, and I do think they look better than regular Boxsters.
I think I'd rather have an M4 convertible than a BoxsterI'd love an E90 M3 vert, but the engine scares me. Rod bearings shouldn't be a wear item.

That exhaust not with the roof down though. Spend the $1000 for a bearing job every 60k miles andChrisoftheNorth wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 4:04 pmNever shopped them, so maybe?

Don’t forget the throttle actuators, the 15mpg and tiny tank, the 10w60 oil and the oil consumption.ChrisoftheNorth wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 4:04 pmNever shopped them, so maybe?

I’ve recently added a third car to the fleet for the first time in my life, now I can realistically afford it. In the past I’ve had fun dailies… but they’re all compromise cars and I get tired of the compromise and bail out.J-Ho-Fo-Show69 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 7:10 pmThis is the way Johnny!! Now the fleet is the Prius Prime for my commute, the Miata for the weekends and nice days to work… and the wife drives our JLUR soft top. The Wrangler drove me to the Miata. I love driving that thing with the roof off and being able to do it in a sports car is sublime.
