Thats the gen boxster I was considering over the beemer, 08-13 IIRC. older ones maybe slightly less? But 1000% thats a better car than a 996, faster too base to base IIRC, just no "but its a 911!!!!" street cred
If you're talking about the base 981 Boxster like the one Dan posted it's not faster. They weigh the same and the 911 has only about 20-30hp more but a full 60lbs ft more. I loved everything about the Boxster I had for a week but it desperately needed shorter gearing. I'd have to drive a 996 to see how it compares but it's just a different experience.
Fixed

I've never driven one. Only Porsche I've driven was 400-500 miles in a 987.1 Cayman S (I think it was a 2008). That thing felt pretty dang quick, about on par with a C5 but very different power delivery. It had shorter gearing relative to a Corvette and power higher in the rev range.

I kind of agree with Brad's earlier point though, I don't really care for a bunch of power, my 328i is plenty fast enough, I just wish the same amount of power was coming from an NA motor that didn't sound like :poop:

The Cayman you drove basically had the 996 engine so it makes sense. The extra .7L of displacement will do that. I had to give up a merge lane to a Camry V6 from the early 2000's because BRZ level no torx could ded

The rest of the car: :muah:

no 996's but the 997 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo, 3:05.8 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S, 3:05.8
2013 Porsche Boxster S, 3:04.2

The defense rests :fax: :micdrop: :ohwell:

re: Dan's edit OMG yes. I did not drive 981.2 boxster as we are discussing, but did drive a regular 981 (06?) as a test to see how i would like. Its a great handling car, but also very mk4 vw (the 981.2 was not) on the inside. Very quick, but the gearing was lonnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg. I hated it. I admit its probably fucking excellent on track....but not for a streetcar holmes. Doing the research online the 981.2 with flappy paddles like i would want had same long ass gearing. side note: why the actual fuck would you have super fast pdk/dsg/whatever capable of shifts literally faster than f1 cars and put in a gearset that has 2nd topping out near 80 mph? fucking stupid. Anyway, the BEEMER's flappy paddle box was much shorter and useable and fun to drive so that's what I went with, along with the PRHT it was :nice: Still miss that car FWIW, I'd have kept longer if not for :baby:

So cool you get to drive to work on a circuit.

That's really your argument for a street car?

981 is the 2014 to current gen boxster/gayman. The second gen was 987

ah yes 987 my bad. years on LL still check out.

Also, I was making the argument against the long gearing because it is a street car to be clear.

The crappy gearing is there JUST to make 911s be worth the +$50K MSRP (IMO).

I'm not even able to ascertain if this is a good deal or not, but it definitely hits me in the feels. A ten+ yr old Evora S avec el :manuel: popped up in my feed and I felt in move, Jerry.

These used to be 45-50k usd … not sure about the Canadian shilling. I really don’t mind one but the issue is you always have to cross shop with a boxster/cayman and this is where the value falls

They are mostly ok... From what I understand. Toyota engine... especially in non supercharged trim is generally decent. (Although I hated it in my taco) but this is a far smaller vehicle.

It was probably the first owner's cream puff. I'd be a second owner so probably more of the same till it was worth half the price. The third owner usually gets a hell of a deal.

They shouldn't be too bad if never driven. I would do the opposite though, track days would be booked right after PPF install.

No doubt in my mind that the toyota engine is more appealing then it is detracting. I'd probably budget in the 3rd owner price range, so reliability would be a factor.

I would rather hop into an Evora every single day of the year before getting into a Boxster or non S Cayman. There are so many trashed Boxsters with yellowing headlights driving around they really dilute the model. Nobody lets their 911 to turn to shit. But Boxsters/Caymans? Mos Def.

Yellowed headlights porsche is a 15-20k proposition.

USED Evoras are 50-80k... that's smack down the middle of a very nice S level Poorsha. A bit of an apples to oranges on your part I believe.

NEW Evora costs MORE than a S Cayman

Point taken. But I still lust for the Evora particularly the GT/ 400, and every Gayman without a GT3 or GT4 after it I do not lust for, and I want no Boxster of any stripe.

It's not the engine. My friend lease the Evora 410 and had doors that filled with water, random no starts, electric window issues that would come and go, problems with the a/c etc. That was a car that was built 10 years after the car was introduced.

He liked how it drove, but the problems quickly dissolved any thoughts of buying out the lease.

Yea I just don't see as a DD car it seems like most issues were inter-related due to water intrusion... (minus the AC) but yea overall that's kind of my point. Lotus dealers are not exactly everywhere... Porsche is far more accessible.

In the 70-100 range there are interesting options....
What's insane is I was looking at some vipers (15+) 2 years ago... and they were 70-85k for a nice sub 30k mile GTS... they are now 130-140k... :wtf:

No idea on price, and I believe the V8 S5s were disasters mechanically, but this thing sure is pretty and the dude seems to have a :notbad: sense of humor. Kind of want to reach out and try to make a new friend since he's in my area. :lolol:
