Wanna hear what I witnessed today...
3 construction workers returned from god knows what... 2 are having lunch... 1 is trying to leave in his gen 2 beat to shit Prius. Austin Powers style... after 3 attempts...
He fucking hits the scooter in front of him and knocks it over.. on the car in front of him...
Then he backs into the other construction guys car... he starts bitching him out...
He gets out of the car and bitches back saying "why did you block me in " and they nearly fight...
The dude then gets into his POS and blows out of the parking spot blowing through 2 stop signs...
Just a normal day in the city... I took down his plate, because I am THAT guy. But the car he fucked with was already fucked so I didn't see incremental damage and the other guy he hit when parking by feel was occupied by the other construction worker...
Man what a weird day today.

I'd say most people if they don't have a backup cam end up parking by feel.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:53 pm Wanna hear what I witnessed today...

You’ve just described a RAV4 hybrid with a tow hitch and a 1UP bike rack.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:45 pm I think the question then turns into what do I want to do with the vehicle.
What I currently do with my car:
Commute, including long distance driving for meetings
Drive to Lisa's parents' house
Fun drives
Occasional puppy park play dates
Occasional running stuff across the city for Lisa's shop
Occasional bike hauling.
What I'd like to do more of:
Skip the useless time consuming fun drives
Turn whatever I get into a mountain bike shuttle to/from the trails WITH FRIENDS which involves driving through a fuckload of traffic
Be more willing to jump in and go explore, possibly with doggie
Minimal off road interest, I don't see the point around Philly
So mountain biking with friends and puppy hauling. And some general exploring to go with my commuting.
So that doesn't narrow it down at all, lol.

Not wrong. Or really just any CUV I think. I like the AWD on my car a lot more than I thought I would. So I'd like to keep that. For those that don't understand why, AWD is the difference of me throwing my back out trying to shovel my car into / out of a plowed-in spot vs just driving over whatever snow and ice mound exists.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 8:17 pmYou’ve just described a RAV4 hybrid with a tow hitch and a 1UP bike rack.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:45 pm I think the question then turns into what do I want to do with the vehicle.

Maybe a Renegade if I want a more interesting vehicle. I like Foresters, I've driven one before with the CVT and I thought it was good enough. The Rav I rented years ago (last gen) was pretty nice as a dopey derp vehicle that didn't suck to drive. CX5 feels a little unnecessarily sporty but is an option I guess. Really just whatever is cheap.
So there are options. I do wonder about the 4R. I'll probably check out a 4th gen just for shits and giggles. Because I love trucks and that's a damn land cruiser underneath it all.

4th gen 4R is solid, but good rust free examples are hard to find without breaking the bank.

Renegades seem to be expensive used still. Hm. Plenty of Rav's out there.

Yeah that's the thing, the V6 would be good because the 4 cylinders all came with 4 speed automatics. The next gen (rat face one) came with 6 speed autos so the 4 cyl really is manageable. 0-60 of that is like 8.5 which is fine, vs 10 ish for the gen prior.

New Rav4 PHEV has 300hp and doesn't look bad. 5/7 would highly consider that in this case.

Wasn't your STI like $35k or whatever a few years ago? Seems like the same at this point.

Which is why I won't do it, especially for a derp vehicle. The STI was a special case of a car that I really really wanted. But I won't put myself through that headache for something I don't really even want to purchase.

I say keep the STI and use the money that you'd pay for a new car on a house to get you out of street parking. Then, buy something in a couple years if you're still looking to get out of the STI.
If that's not really in the cards, the a used CUV, like a Rav4 or even a big SUV like the 4 Runner would be your best bet. Our Rav is a 15' and it's been a great vehicle for us.
A car you REALLY want will just cause when it gets hit, like the STI
I think the AWD V6 Rave4 is pretty epic. AWD grip like the STI + faster than the STI plus simple NA motor but in a body you can about.
Other options would be a nice, cushy AWD sedan. Sedans depreciate so hard that it could be a nice option. Think hotrod Lincoln, AWD, powerful V6, nice and comfy, isolated, probably better quality than many of the CUVs, all for like $5K. The Taurus may also be an option, newer Fusions? 'Murica sedans depreciate like rocks. It sounds like you're not off roading or towing, so an SUV isn't exactly needed. I "explore" all of the time in my 328i and it's lower than many and sportier than most.
Or just get the 4R because fuck it, life is too short to not drive something you like if you care.

I remember when my mom bought then-her TSX, it was $30k for top of the line, iirc just GPS and tan interior. Now the TLX, ohhh boii, $30k would probably get you a CPO.
Nephew of a a few first gen immigrant on DFD, resident turk, and ex nazi egg lover now driving a middle class mom mobile.
Ours has like 150k miles on it now... only issue I can recall ever having was the water pump at like 130k miles.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:06 pmFusions aren't horrible.D Griff wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 12:33 pm
