Z06's still command a significant premium, and the only major differences are the body and glass thickness. Everything else is a bolt-on upgrade to a base car.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 3:49 pm I still want a regular C5 coupe like that. It's what I should have bought in 2013 and at each subsequent time since then. Luckily they made enough that nice examples still exist at good prices.
Base cars are still relatively light, they're surprisingly practical, and they're at least $3k cheaper than a comparable Z06. People just love the Z06 badge...but my car would run circles around a stock or even bolt-on Z06 for nearly the same cash outlay.

Yea...could be salvage.
This is almost always a $17-$19k list price car at a dealer like that.

There's a crazy price difference between the west coast and midwest/east coast. This thing is a solid deal at the list price, whereas in CA it's overpriced. Best thing to do out here is to fly to CA to buy a car and drive it back.Purpc5z wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:00 pmneeds to be about 3k lesscoogles wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 3:10 pm Dat bloo. In hindsight I'd take the targa+hatch combo over the Z every time, even at the same price. The coupe is a better car to me than the FRC, period.Detroit wrote:Z06's still command a significant premium, and the only major differences are the body and glass thickness. I agree 100%. I specifically want the targa/hatch. I never even considered an FRC car.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:08 pmIn hindsight I'd take the targa+hatch combo over the Z every time, even at the same price. In fact, it's the cars usefulness that gives it staying power with me. I have zero complaints with the thing.

Mechanically, it was mostly the heads. If you get an 01+ car, the intake manifold is the same. The cam is slightly higher duration than a base cam, but nothing crazy. A base car with Z06 heads...which are a dime a dozen now (they were the standard casting for ALL V8's after the C5 until the LS3) would rival a stock Z06 for $500 in parts, a $500 dyno tune, and a weekend. Slap on LT headers and you're going faster.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:12 pmAnd 50 hp.Detroit wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:06 pm

So you're saying I should swap the heads off my L33 truck on to Pickle Rick?Detroit wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:19 pmMechanically, it was mostly the heads. They are much better flowing than what's on your C5 now. Check the casting if you're curious should be either 243 or 799.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:21 pmSo you're saying I should swap the heads off my L33 truck on to Pickle Rick?Detroit wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 4:19 pm

just sent me the Car , no accidents reported. 3 owners, the last owner was local to that dealership and owned the car from June of 2016 until now. Only put ~4k miles on the car in that time, doe.

Same as 243, same as Z06. Those are excellent castings.

Would be a great time to do a heads swap and headers.
