The shop is going at a reasonable pace. They had the grille in a few days … then the bumper in a few days and then for the sensors it has to go back to the dealer that totalled my last car.

I am not shopping around shops that have no experience working on these so I went with what was adjacent to the :dillerman:

I have no real issues with the shop per say. This car is just overly complex and expensive AF to fix
Yeah that’s pretty ridiculous on BMWs part. I thought IIHS used to assess repair cost for minor impacts. Maybe they’re not putting any weight into it anymore.
The sensor crap is wild …. It’s my first car that got damaged that had a lot of that going on …

The mini that had run over dear and dented a fender and required a door repaint was $3500… which frankly was egregious as well.

BMW parts are ridiculously expensive on top of all the electronics + insane $300 labor rates

This is pretty astonishing. Crazy that these cars are supposed to be eco friendly compared to ICE and they’ll all be in landfills in ten years.

That hasn't been true so far, so I doubt this. people will hack them, simplify them, aftermarket will come up with solutions, etc.

I can’t wait until someone hacks the accord hybrid CPU to turn off the ridiculous fake shifting.

I'd be morbidly curious on how the lithium packs will/willnot get recycled.

Hopefully so. BMW also didn’t make stuff like this 10 years ago, so we’ll see. It’s certainly true of ICE cars as well, the super complex stuff has a shorter shelf life than say a Miata or Silverado

I'd be curious if a BEV will last longer than the average "HOT V" that is now in 1/2 of BMW/MB/AUDI product.

Yea, but at the same time the tools get out there. The amount of shit that's available for the e90's and hoe cheap it is compared to 8 years back when I had my other one is astounding.

I like the idea of hot v setups, but the thing that will 'kill' them is some 30 dollar sensor buried in a bad place that requires 3/4 of the engine bay to be disassembled to access.

And half the engine is made of plastic. Intake manifolds, waste gates, oil pans, all turbo piping … some fucking valve covers even.

Update … called shop and called geico.

Shop said car is done they can’t get a hold of adjuster to get bill paid. Adjuster (my 2nd one) is out … left a name for a 3rd … who is not answering the phones/email per shop.

Honestly geico is pretty incompetent … has been the source of a lot of headache through the whole process.

I think I’ll pick up the car Thursday… and put another 110 miles on my current rental as they are “free”

Productivity + IQ of someone that had a failed lobotomy. Is how I would describe my interaction with 9/10 that are employed there
