I fucked up! 3rd one, vette makes em wet! Just been over a decade and I forgot … and I just remembered I had a 1969 firebird. I played myself on that one too, because I thought I could restore it but it was busted it wasn’t worth it

I still want something lighter/fun. Currently the clock is at 17 months for the IX so not like that's an eternity. And I can always try to live a temporary 3 car life if I truly wanted...
Golf R/Civic R are still on my mental list.

Still need you to drive those back to back and give impressions. I know you've driven them before but not in quick succession, iirc.

It is nearly impossible, because both are not "test driveable" new. So it would have to be at a carmax or something. But I am pretty sure I already know the outcome here.
Golf R
+More comfortable Ride
+Faster
+Better interior (duh)
+Quieter
Type R
+Better Steering
+Better brakes
+bigger inside/trunk

I didn't really get a chance to test the shitvic stereo. The HK in the golf/gti was kind of lackluster despite what the reviews were saying

If you now have 2 family mobiles, why are you looking at Golf Rs and Type Rs? Just get a Miata and be done with it. You have plenty of practicality with the other two vehicles.

Good question. Because in 17 months one of them will be gone and Golf/Civic would then take over as the "2nd" car. Ideally I'll balance back to a 2 car life.
Could also look at it as an opportunity where you have two nice family haulers for 17 months, why not pick up a depreciated sports car if you want something fun? Double
when the IX goes.
I get the hesitation though, even with my sports car being our second and not third car, it doesn’t get driven much, so the argument is something fun you wife/kid can ride in has broader appeal.

I have a bit of an issue with cars that are “too old” and I don’t have the time to tinker. Time is the only thing that I’m missing, so I’d rather buy new or nearly new and not worry.D Griff wrote: ↑Fri Jul 04, 2025 6:21 am Could also look at it as an opportunity where you have two nice family haulers for 17 months, why not pick up a depreciated sports car if you want something fun? You gotta get over the 18 months hump. Once the kid is a little older it’ll get more fun and you may get to use the car more.
Pre 1 year it’s pretty dreadful with a tiny car and all the shit most people pack. You take less and less once you get older imo (for daily stuff)
I kind of regret selling the taco for the same reasons (500 miles in a year or whatever that I drove it) but I would be driving it a lot more now a mere (6 months later). Sadly the taco also had that dreaded shit engine and 16mpg … so it wouldn’t be a good 100 mile commuter. So for my unique sitch it didn’t work
Yep, probably pretty expensive to ship cross country.

Holy shit... It has been a MONTH since the car got hit. And I still don't have it back. To be fair it's "only" been in the shop for almost 3 weeks.

This BMW repair biz is just outrageous. The parts prices, the finicky sensors, the excessively expensive labor etc. Owning something like this out of warranty/insurance is just impossible IMO. It is financial ruin.
I hope this serves as just an indication how much is involved in fixing what is clearly a pretty minor accident back to OEM specifications. I am somewhat speechless.

Did you shop around for someone to do the work or just pick one place? I’ve had body shops take months for seemingly easy work and I’ve had shops turn a job around in 3 days. Depends on how busy the shop is and part availability.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 12:22 pmHoly shit... It has been a MONTH since the car got hit. And I still don't have it back. The shop is going at a reasonable pace. They had the grille in a few days … then the bumper in a few days and then for the sensors it has to go back to the dealer that totalled my last car.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 1:40 pmDid you shop around for someone to do the work or just pick one place? I am not shopping around shops that have no experience working on these so I went with what was adjacent to the

I have no real issues with the shop per say. This car is just overly complex and expensive AF to fix

Yeah that’s pretty ridiculous on BMWs part. I thought IIHS used to assess repair cost for minor impacts. Maybe they’re not putting any weight into it anymore.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 2:38 pmThe shop is going at a reasonable pace.
