I do think that (while I like the Abarf) the FR-S from 2014ish is worth the $4K premium over the Fiat for a lot of reasons.

RWD, better handling, better interior, etc...I'd agree. Just doesn't make the same noises, and not quite the same power delivery.

Pricing also in Boxster and 996 territory.

Ehhh... Boxster kinda? You can get a clean, reliable, solid FR-S for like $10-13K, a 996 in that range is going to be a turd. You can get a decent Boxster in that $10K-ish range but it's going to be 10 years older than the FR-S. FR-S has more room too. I'd still get a Boxster I think.

:ohdang:

Around here, the only decent FR-Z's start at $15k and up from my brief looking. $10-$13k is :notbad:

I guess this is anecdotal, but my buddy's FR-S he paid $12K for has been going strong for a year now with zero issues and looks great inside/out. I think he's the second owner.

Price max $20k, what do you buy for a fun car?

C5 or C6
Miata
Fo/FiST
500 Abarth
996 base
Boxster
MINI of some sort

??
I'd go hard no on the Porsches unless you're willing to pay the P-tax on parts and service and dealing with the Porsche Pedants when it comes time to :plac: it away.

FiST, Abarf, or MINI.

And... I know which one I'd choose. Image

What, you don't want to deal with the ashole that comes out to your house with a paint depth meter and complains that the readings look "off" on your 20 year old car that hasn't been repainted and now wants it for 30% of the asking price?

:butwhy:

Yeah they are better, Boxsters tend to be cheaper though for equivalent cars. Those are good deals you posted though, they seem to continue to drop. At that tier I wouldn’t sweat the paint depth :bs:

If it depreciates to zero just keep driving/enjoying it.

I had difficulty selling my 951 for $8k because of Porsche lunacy. If I bought one, I'd just plan on scrapping it at the end. I could also see the right car lasting a long time with me.

That's pretty much a given at this point. That thing enables all the stuff I enjoy doing, no other vehicle checks every box for me like that.

Also, being a convertible, it scratches the open air itch. Cruising that thing around with the top and doors off is more fun than any roadster I've driven with the top down.

I'd prefer the "fun car" to be a hard top without a sunroof for headroom.

I mean... that is a pretty rad car, but for a "fun car" when you have a new DD, I think :waxer: 's Caymans posted would be a much better choice and probably cheaper to own as well.

Oh wow, this is escalating quickly.

I have a friend who bought through Carvana, seems like a great way to go if they have what you want and the price isn't through the roof. No hassle on the buying end and they have a return policy should it not meet your standards. The friend I have actually purchased a red MINI funny enough.
