Oh wow... the HFM sounds horrendous glad they are all on the mend. I was going to try and check out one of those cess pools as well (kid gym) didn't realize that's where these things could happen like that.SAWCE wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 1:22 pm Brutal fucking weekend. Kaeilani picked up hand, foot, and mouth from her gym or something a week and a half ago. Last Monday was the peak of it for her. Thursday, Michelle woke up with a sore throat and we realized quickly that she had contracted hfm from K. By Tuesday evening her hands and feet were so blistered that she couldn’t stand or hold anything. Even laying in bed they were itching and burning so badly that she couldn’t sleep. Friday was worse. Saturday I was able to pick up some gabapentin for her from the pharmacy and that provided a little relief. She was actually able to sleep that night. Yesterday things took a quick turn for the better and by the end of the day she was mobile again.
Kaeilani did great sleeping through fireworks on Friday. Our neighborhood pops off and it fucking sucks. Widow rattling explosions every 2-3 minutes from 9pm until 1am. Dog was terrified like the last two years. Going to try some earplug things for her next year. After the fireworks ended, Kaeilani woke up for like 30 minutes uncomfortable because she’s teething. Michelle couldn’t get out of bed, so I’ve done all the wakings and shit on top of just running the show and caring for both of them the last few days.
I’m exhausted.

Yep.. and this disease particularly sucks because there is a 7-10 day incubation period where they don’t even show signs of having it, so you can be living with it and spreading it and have no idea for a week and a half then just get fucked.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 1:25 pmOh wow... the HFM sounds horrendous glad they are all on the mend. Yuck. At least the 4th is passed and the little one has turned the corner. Hopefully some more restful nights are in store and Michelle recovers quickly.SAWCE wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 1:22 pm Brutal fucking weekend. Yea, HFM sucks when we got it. Glad yall on upsiwng.
i recall reading somewhere that its more prevalent now due to the chicken pox vaccine. Older kids would get the pox, and pox the broad natural immunity kept HFM prevalence low because they are similar viruses. Now that the chicken pox vaccine is given, and does not provide as broad of immunity to other things (shingles is another well documented one) its far more common. For example, I also got the HFM when the kid had it, but it was VERY mild...barely noticed it. Other younger parents we knew got it from their kids but had the pox vax and got hammered. I got pox the good old fashioned way way back in the 80's.

Oh interesting. I got the pox when I was a kid. I think michelle did too, but maybe she got the vax. I’ll have to ask. Could explain why she got it and I got nothing at all.golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 7:27 amYea, HFM sucks when we got it. Glad yall on upsiwng.

I'm having flashbacks to two weeks ago flight-wise. AA canceled my flight from CLT to LGA as I was walking from my car to the terminal. They tried to book me on some
