I think 5 hrs is just about the break even point. It is usually better to drive anywhere within 5 hrs of driving range... anything post that it's better/faster to fly.
It's usually 1-1.5 hr flight+1hr to airport +1hr ahead of plane +1 hr after airport to get rental car etc... so 4.5hrs total travel min with no delay for a 1 hr flight vs a 5 hr drive and you're your own boss.
If I'm travelling by myself 10hrs is when I start to consider flying. I get to leave when I want, stop where and when I want, eat when I want, arrive when I want, and flying anywhere is $500 now just to risk what Dan went through.

Add one person to my trip though and I'll typically nope right out of driving
The Mrs and I don't think twice about driving 1400 miles to Florida to go on a cruise. We've done it at least 5 times so far. Flying blows now. Ask Griff.
:wap: Where are these mangos?

:tits: and I recently thought about going to FL in September or October, her lil sis is temporarily living with us and wanted to partake, which makes 3 of us. Meaning 3 flight tickets there and back + rental. Nah, I said I don't mind driving at this point. For someone that regularly travels international almost anually, that is if I am not in a time crunch, unless I am going 2+ different time zones, I'm not flying. I started flying to FL recently due to limited time and the amount I spent was just :disgust: I barely have any issues with southwest though.

Man GM is transitioning us from TIG 4130 to MIG mild steel. Sad, but I understand the reasoning. Hopefully I don't grow to hate it.,

I am not a welder, but was reasonably good at TIG ing up 4130 parts. MIG welding mild steel is a pain in the ass to me, I could never get decent at it.... lots of grinding involved. So I understand this reference.

Good luck.

This entire truck is going to go from nice rainbow tig welds to big fat MIG welds, and be heavier due to the mild steel tubing having to be thicker for equivalent strength. It'll eventually be cheaper and faster but a lot of us are bummed out because it's going to be a lot messier without the shock and awe of jewel like welds when people come through and see them before coating. Our current quality has sold contracts to a few other countries as well.
