Refreshed M3 debuted and I'm glad I got mine when I did. So the price increased, lost the laser headlights, new steering wheel, and ID8.5. That's it. Doesn't even get the laser tail lights from the M4.

I wonder why they took this long to roll out ID8.5. I have been running it for 6 months on my IX.

:iono: In M cars the only difference is the new UI on the climate screen but for some reason the hardware in ID8 cars can't run 8.5.

One thing I've noticed is that the screen tends to get very hot. I use the knob probably 90% of the time anyway but even with a finger press I can feel it. Is your IX the same?

So while poking around the G80 boards I came across a thread asking about the star spec on BMW OE tires which led to this video.

TL;DW: There is actually a difference between regular PS4S and PS4S star spec. PS4S uses 2 compounds while the star spec uses 4. The star spec also uses a compound similar to what's in the Cup 2's on the outer tread blocks and on a strip in the center. The steel belts are also tighter on the star spec.

Would I be able to tell them apart? Probably not but it's interesting and there are a lot more changes between the two than I would have thought.

Interesting. What’s the cost difference between the two?

Also how many miles on your beeema ? You went past the break in and break in oil change yet ?

The fronts are $31 more for the star spec and the rears are $8 more. No idea why there's such a big gap for the fronts vs the rears.

Yeah, break in fluid changes were all done back in April and I'm currently at 2,700 miles. Took all backroads up to the pocono mountains last week and it was a blast.

Minimal enough of an upcharge to stick to star spec.

That’s great ! On the miles and backroad trip. Any other ppf updates ? And I’m assuming no quality issues with the bmw.

PPF has been good. :aintcare: about driving on the highway and it makes washes even easier. I just try to avoid the smaller pieces with my pressure washer.

No quality issues. The only real complaints I have are fairly minor. The shitty cupholders and door pockets which can't fit even a medium sized water bottle. Clutch delay valve still sucks.

No issues with ID8 either and now that it's summer the :knot: coolers seem to work pretty well.

One thing I wasn't expecting is that it gets a lot of attention. No one ever looked twice at the :gorf:

CDV delete scheduled.

Spot reserved for an auto solutions short shifter. This shifter seems to get universal praise in every BMW it goes in. I think obsessed garage puts them in all his BMW’s too.

I’m ending up doing the same mods as I did on the :gorf: . With the shifter being custom made I’m thinking about a 20 or 25% reduction and the softer bushings up front. Dude in the video did the stiffest which is probably too much nvh for me.

As far as the midpipe, I still want the equal length but aren’t bends in the exhaust usually a bad thing? Would that be alright for one of the turbos? :iono:

Negative. Shifter will be in maybe a month or two? The guy said he'd email me back with some recommendations in a few days but that was 11 days ago. I shot him an email earlier.

Everyone who's done the CDV delete said the difference is very noticeable. I could tell the difference immediately in my R after the bleeder block was installed.

The shifter will completely fix the rubbery and vague feeling of the stock shifter.

CDV delete complete. The change was noticeable on the first shift out of the parking lot with the herky jerky 1 > 2 shift being mostly gone. Weather was lousy with heavy rain and with the A/C being on the revs did drop even with the CDV in place so I need to get out and drive it some more.

It's more so on me to re-adjust my timing but so far it definitely seems like a worthwhile upgrade as the delay is definitely gone.

Very interesting... this entire time I thought it was mostly only noticeable during extreme driving. What does this run if you don't mind me asking?

Total was $350 after tax. 2 hours of labor at $160 per hour.

IMO definitely a worthwhile change to improve the overall driving experience.

that actually looks easier to remove than prior. On the tacoma it's this bulky metal block that needs to be cut out etc this seems pretty non intrusive.

You'd think Toyota would want to make it serviceable. Even on the VW it was a similar process. You could have either removed the valve from the plastic bleeder block or replace the entire bleeder block with the metal one which is what I did.

It would probably help but damn, that's a lot. How do you bleed the clutch in the taco then?
