Dang, brother from another mother once again.

I've found that weed impacts people in different ways. Michele is hooked on the stuff, smoking constantly to sleep and function happier. If I smoke as much as she does, I'm destroyed. Exhausted all the time, brain fog, you name it.

For people that have trouble sleeping (like Michele), it can be a godsend when any sleep is good sleep. However for those that don't have trouble sleeping (like me), it's actually a detriment. It doesn't let you hit REM sleep much (if at all) and that's where real rest happens and I find myself struggling for days trying to get caught up on rest, all while my brain just doesn't seem to function properly.

These days, the only benefit I derive from it is for sex, so a few tokes before doing the deed and I'm good. And even then I just use it occasionally for some added fun.

The booze is what I really lean into, and that's tough to kick for me. I really wish I could because I feel amazing when I'm completely clean and dry. I did it for a few weeks in March when visiting Michele's family to support her sister (who's an alcoholic), and was amazed at how great I felt.
I’ve done several months no booze or weed. I also make it a habit not to drink during the week. Although, sometimes I do. I’ve found that if I have a few drinks one night after not drinking for a week or so it really doesn’t affect me. I jump right out of bed. It’s when I drink two nights in a row (like on a boys trip) that it really affects me. I went to folly beach back in may for a boys trip for four nights. These guys went super hard and I tried to keep up. I ended up having like a week long hangover. Which I wasn’t a fan of. I’ll say the months were I was stone cold sober, I didn’t really notice too much of a change in my energy or functions.

I find weed to be really enjoyable. I’ll take a gummy once a week. I don’t really smoke it now. I like to take one before I go to a show or a big dinner. It just loosens me up, I drink less, and have a good time.

I bought these THC gummies while in Maine last week and I wasn’t ready for that milligram count. I took one before we went to dinner at this nice restaurant. Kat said I was acting a fool. I think the waitress knew I was high when I polished off the third basket of bread. That shit was potent.

I’ve gotten to the point this year where I just tell people no to boozing, especially during the week. I’ve had it happen to me several times over the last month where a client, fellow realtor, or lender asked me to go get a beer. I just said naw, I don’t drink during the week. It kinda sucks, but I find that every time I crave a beer, I just go on a run. Almost as punishment for thinking about it. I hate missing out especially with a client, but it helps not consume as much and stay on track.

I’m a pretty social drinker and when I get with my bros, I almost turn into frat boy Jerome.

Alcohol is literally poison.

I love bourbon too, probably more than any alcoholic bev. And that stuff is just not great for you. But dammit do I love trying new bourbons and drinking my favs. I don’t think I’ll cut out booze altogether, but I go through spurts now where I don’t crave it at all, even in some social settings.
Same thing on the booze for me, I think it comes down to sleep. One night of mediocre to shit sleep doesn’t have a huge impact. 2-3+ nights in a row and I’m dead. I’ve gotten better at stopping drinking. Like on our Banff trip, I’d have two beers, feel a nice buzz, and be like, aight I’m good. I used to lean pretty hard into only drinking a night or two a week but really doing it when I did it. I still slip up sometimes I.e. your birthday party :lolol: :barf:

13 years sober.
Feels pretty good.
Congrats dude! I'd like to get there, but it's monumentally hard. I have incredible respect and :impressive: for you pulling it off.

Michele's dad has been addicted for decades. In and out of rehab, constant relapsing, it's a BEAR that most people can't manage.

It was one of my real concerns after my heart surgery a few years ago. I had so much Norco in me and one of the docs wanted to send me home with a prescription for it. I gave him an emphatic :nope: :hellno: and managed the pain with Tylenol and topical lidocaine patches for the next few weeks.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 12 years ago. I came out of surgery all groggy and while I was coming to they gave Michele my paperwork which included a norco prescription. She tore it up and asked for an ibuprofen 800 script instead. Low and behold, that's all I needed to take the pain edge off. I won't touch anything harder :nope:

So I'm having minor surgery tomorrow. My right big toe is getting "debrided" of shite in it causing this big bump. Got my pain relief meds today.....30 Percocet bro. That's like a week of opiate abuse.
The fun part is my PA last week said "Don't use any before the surgery." Me: "You had to say that?" Him: "You have no idea"

That's :fullretard: and good for Infamous . When I got my wisdom teeth out I got a prescription for Tylenol 3, the version with codeine which I don't know if it's even made anymore. I ended up taking ONE pill shortly after I got home and the initial anesthesia wore off. Didn't need any more after that and I ended up throwing the rest of the bottle away. Even back then that shit was being way over prescribed.

I'm not opposed to taking a few percocet, hell I've even mixed it with some alcohol like a rock star. (Percocet with a few IPAs.....:notbad: ) I think I've only had one really good afternoon on the stuff, after that it's meh. Like most errbody else on here, I ain't got no time to be lying around fucked up on opiates. So hopefully I'll hammer a few for a couple of days, keep the swelling in check, and move on. I'm not a good drug addict. To really enjoy alcohol I need reverse inputs, working out, working, etc. Ain't no Miller Time if you don't deserve it. So no danger of you doods finding me in a tent in six months.

Pain meds have their place.

Also, real talk: It takes a few months of near daily opiate use to really get addicted.
I'm not saying go hog wild, but a few days after surgery and you'll notice no ill effects in terms of addiction or withdrawal.

So how long will you be laid up and when do you begin PT (I assume you'll have to do PT)?

No PT. I can walk, gingerly. A mass was removed from the first joint on the big toe, which was getting pretty significant. Gout created likely but seemed to grow without gout attacks. It hurts a bit but mostly elevation is required to keep the swelling down. Essentially, the surgeon went in and spooned out a bunch of shit from my big toe. Which probably created a fair amount of trauma which explains the pain the incision gets examined this Thursday. I just hope that the pain reduces and I can be back on track soon in the meantime, it’s a lot of time in bed with a laptop, which is boring as hell
