The poster child for flamboyant :gay: car ownership is NOT a miata. Not comfortable. Can't transport small dogs and accountrements in it. Rides rough. Frankly kind of poverty.
I know. I live in the deep state of :gay: Range Rover bro, not Miata.

You live on Mercury, top down at 115 ain’t gonna happen. Range rovers are designed for oil shieks and :gay: dinks trying to have a gorgy because WEHO in LA got boring and the desert is artsy

Inserting 'nobody jerks it harder to the Miata than Brad' quote.

:iono: man... There are lots of dope cars out there. You're telling me a Miata is more pinnacle than like, a Boxster Spyder? Nah.

I think that’s where the “for the money” argument comes in

:notwrong: but he said pinnacle sports car... I get the argument that hyper cars and such aren't really sports cars, hence the Spyder. That is pretty pinnacle to me. I do think there's an argument for a Lotus though. I'm :notsure: on the C8 as they're quite big and edging more to the super car area, but Corvettes also. Having owned a Miata and a Corvette, the Corvette was just like... a fast Miata. I think if given the opportunity, I'd get a Corvette again before a Miata. I'm also tall :iono:

I think it depends on what you prioritize too.

Personally I think I'm finding out I'm a powertrain person. It doesn't necessarily need to be the fastest, but it needs character and I need good inputs - throttle, pedal spacing for heel-toe, and most importantly the shifter. I think that's why I don't necessarily get all hot and bothered by the 86. It's okay, but the throttle mapping is sort of nuts, there's a fair amount of rev hang, and the shifter is what I would call decent but not exceptional. It's why I bust a nut for the S2000. It's no faster, but the sound, the powerband, the shifter, they all make for a much more engaging experience, at least in terms of how the powertrain dominates the drive. I think this is all why I probably wouldn't be all that into a Miata, either. I'm sure I'd like it, but it'd be like a 4/7 version of an S2000.

I liked the GR86 in that regard, I hopped in Griff's and hit a perfect heel toe the first corner I got to. It reminded me a lot of the E36 M3 in terms of dynamics and handling.

Interesting that you like GTIs so much :doe: I felt like they have pretty meh inputs. I think the inputs on the 86 are some of the best around today short of high priced things, although a Miata is probably a bit better. S2000 are definitely better.

:iono: though, a GTI shifting experience is pretty garbage compared to an 86 IMO, as is steering. Lots of this stuff is pretty subjective though to your point. I think the 86 is a mediocre engine wearing an incredible car.

The GTI has such a different purpose it's hard to compare the two. I will say that the GTI's inputs can be made quite a bit better with some simple mods. My MK7 had the alloy bleeder block, the stainless clutch line, the delay valve and clutch pedal spring removed, and it totally cleaned up the clutch feel. It's probably also why the DMF was starting to shit the bed. Throttle mapping was way easier to live with. The shifter feel was improved a ton with some simple cable bushings and a motor mount insert. I think the steering in the GTI was better than the 86 in terms of feel and weighting.

The engine itself was meh, but that's easier to overlook in an appliance vehicle than it is for a sports car.

Time for a cayman. The only thing that’s not awesome about a cayman is how the shifter feels in your hand. It feels like total shit. Otherwise the car is incredible and the flat six sounds amazing.

Yeah. And there’s not many cars that have manuals anymore. So your pickings are super slim. Well then the solution is clearly a 4 door bronco.
