This would be way more fun. The current gen gti is properly fast

FWIW, the 7.5 DSG smoothness is much improved over the MK6.

Yeah gross. :nope:

Now they've ruined the Atlas too. You can basically throw VW's entire lineup in the toilet.

Yeah, I was thinking Forester Wilderness. It'd be a safe choice. There are a TON of options in this segment, tho.
Too many to pick from. Forester is bland af but would probably work well. Subarus kind of have a “shitbox” feel to them. I guess the forester at least avoids the crappy enormous touch screen in the recent Subarus though.

Friends have one and they like it well enough. Decently reliable except for the thermal control valve at$1500-2k to fix.
I don't totally agree on the newest stuff. Everything I've been in that's on their newer global platform has felt pretty nice. I've only been in an Crosstrek, Outback, and Ascent, but all of them drove pretty well. The CVT even does the fake shift stuff pretty well. Did not like the huge tablet in the Outback, though.

I would avoid a CVT if possible. If you're going to get a V60, avoid the turbo + supercharger engine. Wayyyy too complex for a daily station wagon.

I think if this were my decision I'd probably go either Golf Alltrack or A4 Allroad depending on how spendy I wanted to be. I'd most likely pick the former, swap in the IS20 (GTI) or IS38 (Golf R) turbo and be on my way.

+1 on civic. reliability, resale, decent to drive, and you already have another honderp that has been trouble free through boogerville.
My mom has an insight which is a civic hybrid really. I don’t get the hype. It’s ok I guess but rides kind of rough, loud, and feels pretty cramped due to the raked windshield. Like the CRV is basically a Benz compared to it.
The new new is a lot nicer IMO.

:iono: yes the five seat CUV is depressing in how it drives but also just the overall blending in. I mean, if you can't beat em, join em I guess.

When did they stop making Mazda 6? Those were huge inside and pretty nice and great on gas.

In all seriousness though, I would probably get a GTI in this boat. It's just so much less depressing and has nearly the same interior space as the CUVs.

The forum telling Mr. Oktoberfest to get another GTI. Gotta love it.

Ha I know. The little IS12 is fine but even the IS20 would make it way more fun to drive.

A '18-'19 with the 7 speed DSG, swap in the IS20 and a tune for it all, and that'd be a decently fun dad sled.

Elantra N if a GTI is being suggested.

May not meet the relaxed drive requirement but it would definitely be fun. Not a hatch either but it has a big trunk.

Cus ain't nobody buying a $52k 4cyl VW when you could get an A5 for the same price, even though this is bigger with adaptive dampers like the GoRf
