heh, go read my HOA experience again, and why when i moved i told my agent that if he showed me a house with an HOA (that I didn't suggest) he was fired. I also traded HOA for old house problems in old hood with no hoa. Overall its a tradeoff i'd make every time again.

Reminds me, I need to paint my 2nd front door red.
My neighborhood has no HOA of any kind. Freedom country up in this piece.
As God and the founders intended.

HOA scope creep in this county is truly amazing/sad/worrisome.

Yeah I can’t imagine living somewhere with an HOA. Fuck you, I’m not paying additional money to live somewhere and have rules thrown at me. I get the appeal of having another entity to enforce certain standards for upkeep and appearance, but that’s not worth spending money on to me. I’ll just call the local code enforcement number and have them issue citations if my neighbors’ shit is too egregious.

HOAs are like socialism or communism. Good in theory, North Korea in practice.

Eh, I will buck the whole Sam Adams thing here. I live in an HOA. $180/month. Guarded gate 14 hours a day by two kick ass guards. Paved and cleaned streets. I have great neighbors, there are 9 different approved house colors, 9 different trims, and you can submit different ones to architectural approval. You can park cars in your driveway, not you street. The whole neighborhood is quite high and tight. It is a very middle class place for CA, house prices from $480-$620K. Speed limits and speed bumps keep the douchebaggery down. 5 of my neighbors have my six every time I leave town. Pick up the mail, take out my garbage, etc, yet are not intrusive, and I return the favor. Would not move anywhere else in the desert because of that overall situ.

ON THE OTHER HAND. The higher up you you go in wealth and arrogance, the bigger the douchebag factor, the bigger the douchebag HOA factor, and it's a total disaster. Case in point. https://www.morningsideca.com/Club/Scri ... e/home.asp

$180/month isn’t terrible for all of that I suppose. All the ones I’d heard of in San Diego were in the $250-500/mo range and didn’t come with the guarded gate.

Yea $180 is cheap. My last hoa was $195 and it was a crock of shit although they did replace the roof and repaint the house and repave the roads. But… they also tried to fine me for my neighbors broken garage door because they thought it was mine.

That was in town homes… but sfh it gets tricky imo. It can be nice or a nightmare. I think we can all agree that preventing a raiders fan from moving in and paining their house black and the roof silver is a great thing. But having to go through 9 committees and having to lick a 85 year old coochie for a motherfucking fence is lunacy

An exception doesn’t make the rule. I’d argue plenty of HOA’s are exactly like yours. But there are others that have way too much and provide either too little in return or it comes with equal drama.

You are right that it gets worse the more you slide it toward increased cost/wealth. That’s because those HOA’s are run by stay at home spouses with nothing else to live for while their partners are out making millions and having affairs.

Not quite. The problem is actually formerly successful people (Didn't get the $2M home in the lottery) with too much time on their hands. Your trophy wife at home scenario sounds fun, but it's really just two rich old wrinkled bastards who have told other people what to do for far too long who come at you in pairs. At a certain point if you can't STFU and leave people alone, you should have all your money taken away and be put back at hard labor to remind you who you were before you started flexing on people.

85yo Karen left us a voicemail yesterday saying she was happy we changed our mind and are putting new fencing along our shared property line (is we get final approval next month). So glad she's happy. :slowclap:

It is if you want a vehicle that can take a doddering old man on a cane in the quarter mile.

Also, :amazing: appearance

I took over the HOA at my cottage complex. The only people I ever direct are the property management group to serve us well.

Edit:
Side project is to figure out how to get rid of the HOA.... Legally bound :doe:

Other option is to anticipate the market and get this one.

MANY MANY BAD ideas... First of 19k
Second off it is the first gen V6, that 3.0 is a pile of heaping SHIT by toyota standards and it keeps popping head gaskets etc etc etc

I would look for a 3rd gen, many in my area that are MINT are around 8-12k
The 3.4 is a far superior engine with epic toyota reliability and significantly more power
It would also be a solid 7-10 years newer than this overpriced pile

These are quite solid. 4th gens get a bit of hate but IMO they are great suvs. If you can find one with the V8 it will likely be a future classic IMO.

If you are considering this for anything other than cars and coffee retrolicious points, every single subsequent generation is vastly superior in powertrain.
