I have a great :dill: with the Chicago Sun Times - $2/week for 7 deliveries per week. I get auto billed $106 once a year on my CC. True, it's not the thickest paper out there, but its editorialists are pretty independent, features columnists from a pretty politically broad spectrum of opinions, and it has a decent sports section. :notbad: for $2/week, IMO.
I believe the Desert Sun wanted a renewal rate of $436 year or some such. The digital version is a tiny fraction of that.
While $1.20/day isn't that bad, it's nowhere near my $.29/day :dill: . I understand opting for the digital version in that instance.

I told him he needs to wear one (it's Illinois law) so he rolled his eyes and took one out of his pocket to show me. I told him they work better on your face than in your pocket, as I took out my hand sanitizer and cleaned off my hands.

Did I mention he's in from TX?
While I am sure there are plenty of pricks out there everywhere, one thing I have noticed here at least locally in SATX is that if you do request someone to wear a mask/etc. if they're not but in close contact with you (aka in your scenario) they will do it and be hospitable without being dick-ish about it. It does also depend on the person, as well.

Pretty shitty out here also... I am working 2 jobs at my current company currently which is a huge pain in the ass. Also flew into Vegas on Sat to pick up an unobtanium watch. However instead of feasting on god knows what and getting drunk I ended up working most of the day there.... it was super stressful.

On the way back we witnessed someone getting thrown off the plane, that person was an absolute bitch... but it was still annoying AF as it was a flight that was already late. Now waiting for the Covid to kick in... so much for staying home and staying safe. Literally dumbest time to travel period. But the watch had to be picked up.

I also think automatics are :neat:

I'm not really into baller status stuff, but I think I may pick up a Seiko at some point.
I have three automatics, a Tissot, Hamilton and Seiko (my newest and fovorite from the wife unit). had the Hammi on my wrist, and the Seiko on my night table.

I have a Seiko like that too. It went kinda wonky and it would stop on Sundays. Pretty sure I borked it by winding it improperly. :fullretard:

I give my watch a few spins before throwing it on, then setting the time and putting it on. Mine sit a few days or more at a time. I find my Seiko very enjoyable to look at, movement is good, the materials are dece, and they are cheap enough to just replace NFG if they get borked.

They hold value, at least have been so far. The Hamilton I posted has doubled in retail price since I bought it, and there must be a hundred thousand made by now.

I think a somewhat rare luxury piece might be a good investment. :iono:

My daily for most of 2021 was a Seiko 5 Sports automatic like this:

Image

Holds good time and I just liked it was “different” enough with the gunmetal case and bracelet. Always got plenty of comments from people despite not being a watch guy. I just like things that are a little different than the norm.

Celebrated the best month ever in the car business picking up the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Carbon in November. I love the carbon face and the pop of yellow. I know Tag’s have a questionable reputation but I wasn’t in the mood to spend five digits on a watch.
It’s quickly become a daily and is starting to pick up some wear on the bracelet… and I love how it’s starting to look “used”.

Image

I turn 40 in January 2023. I’ve set myself a goal to hit for the year. If I can do it, I’m buying myself an Omega Speedmaster Racing two dial:

Image

Finally, if I can find one, I’m trying to find an original Seiko 5 Rally Diver circa 1968-72, to put on a Martini NATO band.

Image

I’m being told I’m no longer “not a watch guy” now.

I thought that buying watches was simple. But certain brands require relationships to levels that are even more difficult than say getting a GT3. :lolgasm: but there is always a way.

Getting a Oystersteel Rollie is a 1-2+ year ordeal and usually you get laughed at if you walk in and try and buy one...

Ugh 2021/2 are just weird.

Special occasions. I have Tag/Citizen for daily usage.

Kinda like you wouldn’t exactly take your Huracan to go skiing. You could… :butwhy: when there are better things designed for the abuse.

I'd be down for that Omega. Sorry, you're packing too much metal to "not be a watch guy"!

My favorite weird and quirky watch is actually from the 70s:

Witness the 1970 Heuer Autavia 1163 GMT with a  "Beads Of Rice" bracelet from the famous manufacturer Gay Frères. it sold at an auction, they didn'tlist the price... Magnificent piece of art.

Fack, it's nice!

Rolex, Tag, and Omega all make reissued versions that people call the "pepsi" watches. They are really dope and make a cool conversion starter.

Rollie doesn’t make Pepsi anymore it’s now called “Batman” has a blue/black ceramic bezel vs that other color scheme.

That tag is pretty dope.

So did it work out? Why you no white gold if you're concerned about the SS tarnishing? Are these collectors items in the making? Website showed them retailing under $10k which is pretty good for a Rollie.

Try to get one … unobtanium. Not worried about tarnish. These are arguably the most durable luxury watch one can get and with no battery/complicated mechanisms it should last a lifetime. But it’s the nicest piece of “man jewelry” I have ever had might as well keep it nice for special occasions.
