Reminder that tunes are obviously the answer and engineers are dumb AF. Amazing that there are multiple people that grenaded their engines and people are still blaming “bad gas” or “oil changes”.

I still want to get a header and tune on my car. I also want to sell it and not buy anything else until we get out of Rustopia... at which point I want to hunt for a
clean version of one of my favorite cars I've ever driven... 2000-03 Celica GT-S.

I would be interested in hearing why over a RSX-S too, unless it's just nostalgia fueled then you really can't argue against it.max225 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 1:52 pmHmmm wrong wheel drive corolla with irs ? 3 years i would shoot for under 2k. Also just FYI, my dad also has a 300(s) model, no issues and it’s a 2017 model. I am not sure I would say it is a worthwhile spend. These are solid for 6/7 years and 100k (all warranty duration)

My dad has already had the entire uconnect system and back up cam replaced under warranty because there was water in the back up cam. Probably a one off occurrence but he doesn't want to take a risk.

Civic has LSD

RSX was a cool car though, I don't understand why that form factor no longer exists. If they would just build a liftback Mustang and maybe a liftback Si instead of coupe,

I have a friend with a second owner, stock RSX-S, I need to reach out and request first right of refusal.

Anyone that wants a sporty sub 35k car will go for a BRZ/SI/WRX/Gti anyone going for sub 25 will go for a Civic SI... also sub 25k and sporty doesn't really happen anymore the price points have moved to inflation. Not sure there is a market for a hatchback FWD vehicle that is sporty, I mean look at the mini, it is failing completely, and honderp killed the 2 door because that vehicle simply doesn't make sense. I think people in that price point value space/size more than performance.
RWD or FWD, the liftback thing would be cool to see back. The 86 and Mustang could both still look great/basically the same as a liftback, and would be way more useful.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 10:26 amNo one buys coupesD Griff wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 10:16 am

You're definitely giving up practicality over something like a GTI, but you can get something that actually looks like a sports car, but is more usable. Think about how much more practical a Corvette is compared to an 86... it has way more room inside and is way easier to load.

I am not sure, I found the 86 to be quite practical... I can't say it is less practical than a vette, but that'sD Griff wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 10:39 amRWD or FWD, the liftback thing would be cool to see back. I agree that the 86 is pretty practical for what it is, but after camping at track day weekends a few times with my buddy in his FR-S, it pales to the 'vette. I have a large tote with all the shit I need (jack, painters tape, tools, etc) for the track I can just throw in the 'vette. I can also put a cooler in my car, his it really just won't go because the trunk opening is tiny. All of that would be easy in the 86 with a lift back, plus the advantage of the tiny back seat when needed.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 10:59 amI am not sure, I found the 86 to be quite practical... But that's personal preference I guess.
Agreed on the stuff in the car

It very likely is bad gas or something like that. OEM engine tunes are super conservative to accommodate for those sorts of things. Tuners remove those safeguards because it means more power at the expense of durability. Anyone that puts a canned tune on a vehicle producing significant power is subjecting themselves to this risk. I'm not sure I'd even go beyond a Stage 1 canned tune, if ever. A custom tune done by a reputable tuner is far better if that's the desire, but you still need to be really careful with where you buy gas and how you drive the car.max225 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 12:00 pm https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/2018-m ... r.9336503/

I finally got a Carvana quote to go through on my car today. 2020 86 w/ ~3500 miles == $24309, including a $2,178 "local market" adjustment for putting in a Charlotte, NC ZIP code... I'll drive to Charlotte and get a rental car to take home for $2k.
That's only about $1500 in
profit vs the loan balance. So much for used cars being hugely valuable.

Vroom says $23000 but picked up in NY, they don't have an option for the vehicle to be located somewhere different from its registration address. It's still probably worth $1k to me to drive to Charlotte and back.

I think I'll probably take the shitty offer and accept that I fucked myself as usual. I'd at least save $500 a month going forward. If we ever get the hell out of here I'll think about getting another car.D Griff wrote:Carvana seems to have cooled down with thetroyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 4:39 pm I finally got a Carvana quote to go through on my car today. 2020 86 w/ ~3500 miles == $24309, including a $2,178 "local market" adjustment for putting in a Charlotte, NC ZIP code... offers. My buddy who's FR-S I was thinking about getting recently was planning to sell his to them and buy a Mustang GT through them. His original offer was $10.7K for a 2013 with 95K miles or so, they dropped it to $8K when he was looking to pull the trigger recently, so now he is going to attempt private sale.
Have you tried Carmax and Vroom? Same friend was offered $10K on his FR-S from Carmax, $2K over his current Carvana offer?troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 11:36 pmI think I'll probably take the shitty offer and accept that I fucked myself as usual. The high Vroom and Carvana quotes were short lived. They went back to being shitty pretty fast, I watched our JL drop by many $k's each week after the highest offer of $39k back in August. It's down to $33k now, to which I'll pass on.
