I've minimized it. Today is the first day I've driven in a week. I won't be going back out again unless absolutely necessary.troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 1:06 pmDetroit wrote: Yea...very few seem to be taking it seriously. I guess we'll find out if that's the right or wrong move soon enough.
Day 3 and the wife can't stay home. She went grocery shopping (where she said there were people everywhere) and now she's going to visit with a friend. She's at high risk for this shit too because she's had pneumonia a few times in the past but she "just can't stay cooped up anymore".

Wow...that seems like a pretty bad idea.

Or this truly is NBD and everyone is overreacting... I have no clue.

I had trouble falling asleep last night and thought a lot about this for some reason. And I'm oddly at peace with the idea of dying in the next few months.
It's weird, I just DGAF. I'm avoiding the virus because I don't like being sick, but I don't really care much if I die.

Well it'll certainly be proved to be one of the 2. FWIW, we're making it voluntary for the hourly shop guys and we're paying them double time tomorrow and Friday (their regular pay on top of the .gov payment for being off) and time-and-a-half to work Saturday, then back to regular pay next week. Turns out we are not an essential industry but several of our customers are so we're using that as the reason to go back. Plus, there's the whole, if we don't start getting receivables in, we can't stay in business since our payables have not stopped.

This is why we're making it voluntary.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 1:16 pmI think for most, it's probably NBD.

After thinking over it more... I think you're right. The base salary is significant. The pay will certainly be less due to commission losses but it is still plenty to pay the bills and live comfortably on. Life was set up viewing commission as a bonus more than anything.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:19 amI wouldn’t do a god damn thing. I am sort of mulling over reaching out to my boss and offering to take an unpaid furlough. Any thoughts on if this is a good idea or nah? My job is really shitty for me at the moment as I am expected to make 30+ outbound sales calls/day and that's just painful at this point. It also isn't all that productive, no one is trying new stuff right now or anything like that, my sales numbers are dumb luck at this point.
I don't think he would like the idea of it as he probably would feel it would impact future sales, so maybe it's best to leave well enough alone.![]()

I'm working on doing the things that I actually care about, without regard for what might happen from all of this. For me that's getting my music studio up and running.Detroit wrote:I had trouble falling asleep last night and thought a lot about this for some reason. I went out for the first time other than biking/running/walking today in about 12 days. First time driving even. Went up to a suburb of Charlotte to buy a Craigslist bike for the wife. Me and the guy kept our distance, we obviously both touched the bike
I feel I've done my part to the best that I can. I'm more concerned with killing others, I am a healthy mothuhfucka.
It was alarming though, plenty of cars on the road, people at shops, all over. Maybe it's a quick boom since the real shutdown happens tomorrow. The liquor store was insane. It was cool and raining and there was a line of people two feet apart from each other wrapping around the building (I think only one or a few in at a time) waiting to go in. Most all of them looked to be poor as well.

LA county reported its first youth death from suspected corona virus yesterday. Young teenager from my kinda hometown, Lancaster. No pre-existing conditions. They’re still waiting on confirmation that he did have the virus, but if so, that’s concerning. Was reported to have been in good health prior to this.

I've read numerous reports about perfectly healthy in shape people below 40 being hospitalized for this thing. If the hospitals are full, those people die.SAWCE wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 1:38 pm LA county reported its first youth death from suspected corona virus yesterday. Yeah, that's what I was saying after day 1 here. Yesterday I took some boxes to the recycling drop off and drove around a few minutes... looked almost like business as usual other than some shops being closed.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 12:56 pm Decided to finally fix the sash cords in the windows in the office so I can enjoy some open air while WFH.
