What's the cost for registration?

We're at $2-300/year for a newer vehicle. Plus 6% sales tax. Highest insurance rates in the country and garbage roads. Michigan blows.

Huntington Beach sales tax is 7.75% as of now.

Registration? My JL just came up in May and it was $660 for the year.

HB is that cheap? I thought it was well over 8%.

My goal was to buy a place because I think if I started renting I'd never be able to afford to buy.

You can get cheap houses... extremely area dependent, if you'd like to be "ITB" it's pricey.

My friend lives in Garner and I don't mind that area at all.

Back to o-nomics.

Crawled under the last night and disconnected the front endlinks and went for a drive, then reconnected and went for a drive.

Definitely seems to feel tighter up front with the endlinks disconnected, so I ordered new endlinks for the front from Quadratec. Should have them by Monday/Tuesday.

Also found that I have either an oil leak or the PS system is leaking at the pump somewhere. Need to take a closer look at that.

How bad is it ?

Yeah, sales tax in California is set at 6% and after adding base city taxes that bumps to 7.25% as a base. Then the local add-ons that are passed by voters stack on that. Most places are between 7.25% and 8%, only the most liberal areas are higher as the subjects of those counties don't know any better than to vote "yes" for any and all "programs" and bonds..... for the childrens and illegals.

Compton: 10.25%
San Diego:7.75%
Mountain View: 9%
El Dorado Hills: 7.25%
My county: 8.25%

Registration is a rip here. It's based on MSRP/Original price of the vehicle minus what they consider depreciation. Last year my Z06 was still $800 to register and I don't want to see what they think I owe them on the 911 in January. Probably about $1500-$1800.

That registration money is partly supposed to fix the roads, but the money always gets diverted since the people leading the state can't budget and they run the state with one bank account and everyone makes a mad dash to write checks when there's a positive balance.

Interesting. When I was in SoCal, I thought I recall pretty much all cities counties being between 8-9%. Ventura was cheap for some reason...7%. When I was poor, I'd buy things at Costco in Ventura and return them to a Costco in LA and pocket the extra 1-2% in sales tax. Why they refunded the sales tax where you were returning and not what you paid was beyond me. Would be enough to buy me a hot dog or slice of pizza at the food court. I've heard they since closed this loophole.

Yeah but the property tax on homes is there...

I'd rather high vehicle taxes, it's possible to drive a really cheap vehicle enjoyably more so than live in a cheap-ass house.

Ours is 1.1% of the assessed value (not market value), so it' pretty cheap here. If we paid the percentages that NJ pays, with our house prices.... nobody would ever buy a house here except for the super rich.

I'll be doing something between now and September. Most likely I'll end up ordering a Bikini JLUR around my birthday at the end of July, but who knows.
