Problem is you don't know what the inventory level is. You can go looking for something specific and be SOL when you find it's out of stock. In densely populated areas with multiple stores within driving distance, that's a big if you pick the wrong store...

Yea, I know...that's not a thing here either, but in SoCal you can drive to 4 within 45 minutes it seems.

Yep.Detroit wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 2:07 pmIKEA, despite it's size and inventory complexity is a complete disaster with ordering. Shockingly bad.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:54 am Attempting to buy IKEA wardrobes. This is now the third try. Their phone ordering person couldn’t help me with pick up in store. In store guy couldn’t do anything other than place a delivery order. So I went on their website and line by line checked stock. So now I’m gonna attempt to buy the items they have in stock so I’m not waiting over a month due to one shoe rail being OOS.
This is infuriating.
We ordered an outside dining set that we couldn't pick up in the store, despite it being in stock. Ok....so they blew 3 separate delivery dates when called and blew them up. Turns out they "didn't know where the table was and had no idea when it was coming in stock", so they were just going to keep setting and blowing delivery dates until the table eventually came in stock and they could deliver.
We cancelled.
I like IKEA products, and will continue to buy from them, but only if I can buy it in the store...and can get my hands on it. They're online inventory system is pretty inaccurate from my experience, which is even more
Dude the other day explained they have no way to check inventory on a multi item order until you convert it to a pay order. Like wait hold on wut. So there was some number of items not in stock (he couldnt tell me what) and it then auto kicked it to delivery with a date a month plus out.
So I went to their website and checked stock. Went back with the list of what they had in stock, which was everything except a few drawer rails and one shelf organizer, and went to the returns desk. Had the lady verify line by line that they had the shit. And bought it.
Went back home picked up uhaul and went back over (4th time to the store now) and was able to load it all up.

Oh it gets better than that.
One item out of stock in south philly. Check other stores on their website and find out Conshohocken has it. Excellent.
I figure some fuckery is about, and add to cart and go to check out and select in store pick up.
It gives me some fucking time slot for south Philadelphia. Which doesn’t have it in stock.
And I go to change to conshohocken and it will not let me do store pickup at that store.
I lost it at that last night. Cracked open a beer and said to hell with this.

Sounds similar to our outdoor furniture experience.
We ended up piecing together a set between Cost Plus World Market and Menard's...but in the case of things like wardrobes, Ikea's the best game in town IMO. We've tried other solutions, and I just don't like them as much.

I haven’t ordered doors for them. Will probably try to find a 3rd party company that will make them.Detroit wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 3:52 pmJohnny_P wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 3:40 pm

If they make solid wood doors in the size you need, they'll be great quality and a super low price. I love the solid wood stuff from IKEA.

They may...it's crazy how many different door designs they have.

Fan is in. Electrical repaired in the basement. Most of the ikea order is up in the room, ready to assemble starting tomorrow. Should have it up in about a week, gotta figure out how to secure it to the wall, and how to make the interior backs of the ikea cabinets not look like the folded cardboard that they are. Supposedly wallpapering them makes them look pretty good and gets rid of the crease. Might end up doing that.
We're gonna order a new bed frame and some bedside tables I think.

Middle bedroom is nearly cleared out of adult clothes and we're starting to load up baby gear in there. Dresser is gone, someone is picking it up tomorrow. The mattresses are gone from our dining room finally, they're back in the back bedroom.
Some other minor changes to do but the major items are basically done. Feels good to sleep in my bedroom again. New bed frame is coming end of the month, so there's some time to pick out side tables and lamps and stuff.
Bought a new AC, shit is quiet asf. Coupled with the fan that basically makes no noise, it's pretty nice sleeping in there now.

What AC did you get? Have yet to find a truly quiet window or wall unit.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:02 pm Middle bedroom is nearly cleared out of adult clothes and we're starting to load up baby gear in there. I wanted one of the LG dual inverter units as they’re supposedly super quiet but the smallest I could find was a 15k, and that’s just way too big and too much power draw for the room and circuitry.
I have no clue if this one has smart functions and I’ll never use them if it does.

Bedroom update:
Bedroom is fine. Closet space there is good now. I still need doors on the Ikea cabinets. Best part of the entire room? Having more than 1 usable electrical socket. We have 2 on each wall, around where a bed could go, so plenty of options. And many are in use. So that's nice.
Can't use the new awesome fan. It works excellent. Super quiet and pushes an assload of air. Which wakes up the kid. So it's a nice looking feature that can't be turned on.
Rest of house:
New leak in the kitchen above the window. So I gotta figure that out.
The front of the microwave, a trim piece snapped completely off. 2 years old, fucking broken.
Garbage disposal shit the bed I think. Gonna have to take it apart and see if something is stuck in it, but it's not even clicking now when you hit the button.
Very meh on this entire house. Hopefully we can leave here soon. If I find a job.

Re the garbage disposal, there should be a breaker reset button on the bottom that you can hit to see if power is restored to the unit. The breaker can trip if the blades get clogged with shit. Also on the bottom of the unit there should be a hex fitting to insert an allen wrench to ly turn the blades to try to free up anything that may be stuck in there. Alternately you can try putting something like a paint stirrer down into it from the sink to try to turn the blades for the same effect if you don't have the allen wrench that should have come with the unit.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 3:27 am Bedroom update:

Went over to a friend's apartment a few years ago, and the kitchen WREAKED. Asked them what's up and they said the garbage disposal was broken and the landlord wasn't in a hurry to fix it. Reach under and flip the switch, turn it on and it grinds up a bunch of crap and everything flushed down. They were since it went from completely DEAD to working like a champ. Something must have jammed it up and softened up as it sat in sludge for a few weeks.
