I am VERY hopeful the Alfa will be fine, but I'm also a realistic that with other people's experiences + Alfa it might not be. If it's not, I will walk away with a check for the full OTD purchase price and will have driven an Alfa for a year, functionally for free. The question then comes, what do I replace it with.

My budget would be 80k but after spending that much once, I'd prefer not to do it again right now. If I were, I'd just buy an M3 and call it a day but for some reason I'm just not that interested in the M3.

A few things to consider:
Mid 60s on budget
Room for a child seat and a rear facing baby seat (it can be snug, but has to be doable)
Four doors
Fun
My commute might be on the verge of getting longer and something pleasant to be in 110 miles a day is nice. Also would be nice to have an 8 or 10 month car instead of 6.

Obvious options:
M3 (it has to be included even if it's not blowing my skirt up)
340i if I decide I DO want a BMW but don't want to pay the money
S4 or S5 sportback (the S4 seems to be my mental front runner)
RS3 (size worries me)
CLA AMG 45
Infinity Q50 Redsport thingy

Less obvious options:
Golf R
STI

Even less obvious:
Used GTI (stage one with a catback), go no payment life for a couple years, then step into an E63 AMG Wagon or RS6 Avant (this plan I am finding to be shockingly attractive right now).

Thoughts?

Used. Take that :alpo: luck and put it to work on some German engineering. Maybe you'll get another free car.

My guess would be that Chris took some time off because he has read the dialogue on this page 1,345 times and decided to spend some of his free time doing something besides beating a horse to death.

I'll have to drive one. I didn't particularly enjoy the cockpit of the 392 when I was cross shopping with the SS and that was three years ago.

I’ll start with what to avoid to your liking.

RS3 will definitely be an issue as far as kid room is concerned. Source: my uncle has an 11 month old baby and drives a Macan S.
He also had a CLA45 AMG, not only the lack of seat room is a concern, but the way the rear doors are shaped where i almost hit my head one time. Otherwise that car is a riot to drive as I experienced it riding shotgun.

Now the good stuff:

340i are :notbad: especially with fakesport, but don’t expect to have “sporty steering feel”, but im told with the LCI F30’s that issue has been resolved? :notsure:
The S4’s are pretty nice, worth to take a look, but just like almost all audi’s they are prone to understeer.
Q50’s are great and probably wouldn’t worry as much for reliability concerns compared to Germans.

So in rank excluding the M3:
1) q50
2) s4/s5 sb
3) 340i
4) cla45 amg
5) Golf R
6) rs3

If you’re getting a cpo GTI, get the mk7.5 perhaps the rabbit edition if you want essentially the base PP, comes with 7 speed DSG, but no sunroof doe. Or get :narc: spec, which makes mine inferior in comparison.

M3 in the $60s is gonna be a tough find. But that’s be my frontrunner.

Or a GoRf. Go find an unsold Spektrum car.

Yeah the q50 thingy is bottom of my personal list but I think I have to include it. The m3 would be 80ish when it's all said and done so that's a "if I'm willing to spend it again" question which I'm *probably* not willing to do.

A CPO CTSV should be in the range. Plus supercharged V8 :megusta:
