Probably should've... but it's basically the same as my car, I don't see it as worth the effort unless going M2 as an only car to replace both or something.

Max's points are good, hence why I said I'd nix the idea after looking at prices. If a cream puff was sub $15K maybe...

I just want a more interesting/unique DD.
I would be shocked if they are... Story time...

About 10 years ago when I got the 1992 325i coupe, i was looking for new tires as well naturally... and it was cheaper to buy take off wheels+tires than tires for that car... so I decided, fuck it why not... Ended up going to this dudes house who had a set of 4 with Michelins... In his gayrage for $150.

He had a MINT 1997 E36 coupe and a C2 corvette on the covers... he was trying to sell the E36m3 for 12k... it had 68k miles. Silver on Dove gray with Vador seats, spoiler, those famous wheels+ all options essentially... I thought to myself. :waxer: but sweet car... (my 325i with nearly the same power 192 vs 220hp, cost $1500).

That car is probably worth north of 20k if it was preserved correctly and not driven...

That's the catch unfortunately.. .getting a cream puff 20 year old car means they got less than 3-5k miles a year, and just sitting down and plowing 15-20k miles into it annually seems like sacrilege. At this point E36 M cars are collectibles that go up... so 1-3k miles tops... and that makes for an expensive hobby, and tons of :butwhy: questions from the :tits:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-BMW-M3/22 ... SwmENd42Zd

Here we go... cream puff priced at 38k or buy a nearly new m2.
Surely 77k US spec M3 don’t usually go for 38k?
Personally I :wood: n’t even if it was 10k less.

Love the E36 but yes, I’d buy nearly new M2.

You can find pretty nice ones around $17-20K, that seems high. I started looking into it as I had seen decent ones for low teens a year or two ago... My play would be to just buy one up, DD it for a couple of years, sell for the same or more than I paid. It checks out if you value your time at zero and nothing catastrophic breaks :lolol:

To be fair that was my exact plan with the E46 M3 which I owned about 5 years ago... Let me just tell you man... OLD BMWs are a :nope: from me dawg.

They require a lot of upkeep and care. And everything needs doing... after that I decided go much newer/japanese and never looked back until the mini ... but hopefully that'll last me a bit as well.

Well MINI is a lot newer, no :unicorn: //M stuff, etc. should be fine. My N20 vehicle seems to be pretty darn reliable so far. Only issue after a year and 15K miles was a misfire fixed by plug replacement.

It's too bad as old BMWs are :neat: cars for sure.

I had 5 BMWs total now...
E36
E46
E46M
F30
F80M

All have issues... but the older ones were plain nightmarish because of the unpredictability.

They're just old cars at this point.

For a daily, you want something that runs and drives every time you turn the key or push the button.

An old BMW is not typically one of those things.
:dat:

A two (or more) car garage really is preferable.
One newish daily and something fun, like an old BMW.

Been thinking of it more and more lately but that would probably mean getting rid of Mini for a Giulia lease + Miata/E36 or something.

I invited a couple other friends down since one's brother lives in Raleigh too. Was still planning on the all Star weekend as it's less of a commitment to those who might not be down for a 5+hr race. But yeah chef could drive my brub then yours to see how a properly maintained one is actually like. :lolol:
