I dunno. I'd disconnect one or more of the ABS wheel speed sensors and see if that turns off the ESC system. It should. The computer has to rely on wheel speed information to activate the engine torque reduction...
On my work Exploder, push the TC button and it just gives you more leeway before it intervenes. Push and hold for 5 or so seconds and it'll let you roll the damn thing if you so desire.
I find Ford's old advancetrac system pretty retarded. It really does not work all that well.

Short term vs long term solutions are not mutually exclusive! I plan to look deeper into the ESC defeat rabbit hole for sure, but a beater mostly FWD car isn't going to be the answer any longer than it needs to be.Johnny_P wrote:I dunno. Realistically I'll probably just beg people to let me run their cars for beer money or whatever and do nothing to my car for another year or so.

This is inevitable with how computerized vehicles are now days. The threat from malicious hacking is real.[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 4:17 pm https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/01/202 ... proof-ecu/

All cars are pretty close to the edge these days. Part of the reason we've seen better performance from similar displacement engines is advanced computer controls allow for getting closer and closer to the edge.[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 4:27 pmWell, you also have the issue of that car probably being tuned closer to the edge than most cars.

Meh - Manufacturers have been talking about and producing "hack proof" ecms for the better part of a decade. An industrious person with enough time and skillz will figure it out.[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 4:17 pm https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/01/202 ... proof-ecu/

I agree that it would look better to me if the rear was a bit "unsquashed", but it's still cool and I'm a fan of wagons and would love for a market to develop here for them so we'd see more being imported here.
