The fridge is in front of one of them, and Julian’s closet is in front of another. The people that owned this house before the last couple were fucking idiots. All around.

His closet could be relocated. And the kitchen is due for a full replacement in a few years. So when kitchen gets done it will get redesigned to free up that window again. Just wtf all around.

We have a lot happening over the next couple of weeks. I put down grass seed the other week and had five trees planted out back, so a lot of watering which is annoying, but pretty about the trees. I wish it would rain a little bit.

Tomorrow the fence people are coming in - we have privacy on one side and it's rotten/falling down. The chain link on the other two sides of the back was damaged in the tree fall and uggo - we are getting a 6' privacy fence all around, should be done by Friday.

Next week the new shed will come in, upgraded a little bit and and we're getting a 10x12 unit with a couple of windows, metal foundation, higher roof so we can install some lofts for extra storage

I need to take down the old shed this weekend, going to save the back section roof and frame to put behind the new unit - firewood and other 'outside shit' storeage out of site. A lot of the frame of the shed is undamaged, so I plan to reclaim the 2x4s to build out the lofts in the new unit.

This has been a big PITA but we ended up $13K or so in the black from insurance so it's an overall win.

The shed removal was quite a workout. I’m going to save the truck rental/dump trip for another day.

I think we are about 75% unboxed. Starting to come together a bit. But still surrounded by cardboard.

Heater is two zones. Downstairs zone can’t turn on the heat just the fan. Upstairs zone fan seems like it’s busted so it’s not pushing heat to second floor but it can turn on the heat. So it’s fun that the sellers didn’t disclose that the HVAC system is on the fritz. I think the downstairs issues are related to a solenoid valve so that’s an easy fix, but the upstairs may need a new air handler.

Kitchen is alright. Full sized sink! Finally. Appliances are brand new so I don’t expect any problems with them for a while. Fridge is tiny… stuff you don’t realize on a 30 min walk through. We bought a small island that’s like a sea foam green and it brightened up the room a lot.

Dog and kid love the backyard. Dog spent 2 hrs out there this afternoon while I was WFH.

Nice to have two driveways. And stand-alone home instead of connected.

I dunno. I give it a 6/10 so far. I keep looking for other homes in the area we actually wanted.

I think it can be fixed. There must be some issue in the solenoid because it should trip the heater on but it’s not. A couple hundo to fix that seems ok.

There’s other issues but a lot stems from shitty repairs by prior owners. PO “refinished” the floors and it’s already peeling off, one floor beam has an enormous chunk cut out for no reason so I’ll get that looked at, I dunno.

There are more positives too though. Like the whole house is wired with cat5e cables to every room which I didn’t expect so that’s cool. No knob and tube wiring here. And plumbing works a treat, full water pressure is pretty nice to finally have.

Overall it’s not great but we wanted to be close to family, close to a town and train station, and in a good school. So the house sucks a bit but all the other stuff is checked.

Funny we have a tiny fridge too. We had the exact same one at our apartment before this house and we’re like ‘this fridge sucks, would never buy’. Didn’t even notice the house we bought had the exact same model. New so it stays. I feel like the side by side setup just doesn’t have much space unless it’s enormous.

Hopefully you enjoy it more as it starts to feel like home. The house game is hard. Pretty Impossible to get what you actually want unless you have fuck you money.

So. New house is not great and needs a bunch of crap.

We spent $2k on the hvac system. Then the dude as he was leaving was like oh yeah it needs another $700 for a blower motor replacement but you should probably just replace the entire system because it’s old af.

Basement has silica dust literally everywhere. I can’t clean it up it’s clogging my shop vac and creating concrete in my floor washer. Need a pro for that. Basement walls are crumbling in spots so that would get repaired at the same time. We can’t put anything down there and have separate shoes for the basement. Contractor coming to look tomorrow.

Lights in the entire house dim and flicker when the washing machine runs. Have an electrician coming to look at that in a few days.

Found wood eating insect damage on the front porch which seems active, in basement which seems inactive, and holes throughout the entire house hardwood floors that seem old. The floors are disgusting here which we knew. But didn’t know bugs were the culprit. That was not disclosed.

Patio door frame is rotting and needs to be replaced.

The vertical supports installed in the basement are causing a floor joist to twist. The blocking installed to prevent twisting is digging into the joist and splintering it. Because none of that was installed right.

I dunno guys I want to nope out of this hell hole. How financially suicidal is that? Given I have about $25-30k of repairs that need to happen.
