All good points, also curious to see what solutions exist. Those cabinets should just be bins that hinge in the middle of the bed and have hooks in them and watertight locking lids.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:33 amI mean big toilet paper thing won’t fit, bottles of wine etc will all go horizontal and slush around instead of being hung on the hooks etc.
I dunno I’m pretty newish to this. I have had a gen 1 taco in the last 3 months and 3500 miles. Still learning how to do things better on this one

Get a full hood if doing PPF. The line will cause dust/debris/gunk to form and it will not only become visible but it will look like shit. PPF is like a vinyl wrap. You can wrap it around everything, including a hood scoop.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 9:00 pmI can’t I have stickers on the hood where the scoop is. about lines as most people aren’t tall enough to see it anyways.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 8:56 pm
Taco doesn’t have a drop in liner - bed is composite inner, metal outer.
I’ve got a vinyl tri-fold on mine and it needs no cutting of anything on the truck. Easy to remove if needed, too.
Also, do the full hood. Ain’t nobody got time for paint protection film lines.
Btw fun drum brake factoid
70-0 in a Tacoma 170 feet
70-0 in a gladiator 185 feet
Is your tri fold oem Toyota ?
In terms of bed material, sure looks like just plastic on top of the bed what composite bed? The bed is metal with plastic thing sitting on top of it secured by several screws

I guess.
I end up needing the space randomly when not anticipated, but that's a specific use case.
Example:
Yesterday we decided to randomly stop into a furniture store while out doing errands to look for a couch (we sold our old one with the house) not expecting to find anything. Sure enough, they had it there and ready to go...so we bought it, I rolled up the tonneau, and threw is in the bed. With a tri fold tonneau, I would have had to screw around with removing the thing, and then find a place to put it along with the couch. Sure, could have gone home first, but it was a 20 minute drive...so 40 minutes round trip just because of the tonneau? No. Could have paid $100 to have it delivered, that's what the is for.

A good option except you can't see out of the rear window. Hence my preference for a rolling one.

Bottles of wine and smaller things you don't want rolling around I put in the back seat or rear floor no problem. That's the case with most of our grocery shopping, we just use the bed for big stuff like TP/paper towel things, dog food bags, etc.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:33 amI mean big toilet paper thing won’t fit, bottles of wine etc will all go horizontal and slush around instead of being hung on the hooks etc.

A tonneau was originally an open rear passenger compartment, rounded like a barrel,[4] on an automobile and, by extension, a body style incorporating such a compartment. The word is French, meaning 'cask' or barrel, cf. “tun”.[5]
Was going to ask this then answered by own question. We should really just call them "bed covers"

Well, they're technically called "tonneau covers" and originally referred to covering that open air compartment on a a vehicle. The term is used throughout the industry for various covers...it's how I've always referred to them professionally.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:06 pm A tonneau was originally an open rear passenger compartment, rounded like a barrel,[4] on an automobile and, by extension, a body style incorporating such a compartment. Americans struggle with speaking and writing French, it's amazing how many misspellings and botched pronunciations I've seen/heard over the years, so yes...for us idiots "bed cover" is probably more appropriate.

You need some ratchet straps in your life. Lay the tailgate down, put that flat in your clown truk bed, and strap it down using the tie down cleats. Done.
Or keep gate up, and just rest it in at an angle, and again strap the front. It won't go anywhere.

Perfect. The real killer of straps, whether they are cheap ones or expensive ones, is somebody hastily racheting them up to put them away.
Your clown bed got me thinking. When you buy a drop in bed liner you also get a tailgate piece that is screwed or bolted into place (for most trucks at least) and I wonder if there's an option that can "extend" the bed length similar to the new GM tailgate. This to me is more desirable than a large tubular option that splits the bed when you're not using it.

The tubular version exists for sure this one I don’t think so. I feel like tacoma tail gates are flimsy. I feel like the gen1 can not support a linebacker, I can see the metal flex.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 11:31 amPerfect. The gen 3 is a bit better. But still wouldn’t want to load it with too much stuff

This is interesting. I don’t like that it weighs 100lbs and seems rather difficult to remove.
Thoughts from y’all ?

Correct. I thought the whole thing was one unit initially.[user not found] wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 4:50 pmBed caps ≠ bed liner.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:22 am https://youtu.be/deLIj42SYGc
To those that said it doesn’t need cutting check out this video, the bed caps (plastic) need to be cut to allow for the mounts to be placed
