Figured might as well shoot the shit here about this. The woman and I talk about this at least once a week but can't seem to come to a conclusion.
I have been talking to the woman about the replacement of the crapura... which she has now had for a DECADE. She did really like the Defender, but that deal was fucked from day 1... and she does like the Model X but deems it to be "Way too expensive".
Yet we can't seem to find something that works because of an "impossible" set of requirements we self imposed on ourselves. But I am happy to hear any sort of ideas 'y'all might have:
Requirements:
Low Depreciation
Sub 80k
Low maintenance costs
Preferably unique/nicer badge
Preferably SUV/larger/taller shape
Preferably EV or a really good plug in hybrid.
The current cars/suvs in consideration.
Rivian R1S- A bit on the pricy side, unknown reliability/depreciation/2 year wait.
Bmw I3- too much like the mini and doesn't "feel" like an upgrade to the Acura per say given the "ugly" shape.
Model 3- too common and too expensive ?
Model Y- too common and too expensive ?
GLC43- We love everything about it other than the fact that its powered by dinosaurs.
SQ5- Same as the GLC.
Ioniq5/EV6- while on paper they may work, the brand has a questionable history and 50k+ markup is insanity for a korean mid range car/cuv
Prius Prime - New one is great... but Prius stigma... and Toyota has major first model year issues which can be bad.
What else is out there... what am I missing? Is there something else coming up?
IX-Lemon Life.

Blazer is an interesting one... It is relatively unproven from a platform perspective for GM... so the first few models may be and... the chevy badge....
The LYRIC i really like... but also Cadillac is also catering to a peculiar demographic.

Low depreciation and pushing $80k don't seem to go together. The best way to avoid deprecation is to buy a cheap car - there's only so much a car can go down in value if it isn't worth much to begin with.

The newer BMW electrics are getting good reviews. I think they have an SUV available.
But yeah a shrinking economy and low depreciation on an 80k vehicle don’t really go together. You’re going to have to be ok with some depreciation.

Yea that’s part of the issue at hand… which is why we sold the model X. The depreciation from 136k to 10 k is going to happen over the course of 10 years or so… and that’s just too rich for my blood. Something at 1/2 that pace would be acceptable. (5-7k a year)

See I place a -$10,000 premium on something from Korea over Germany or the US. The GV is out from day 1.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 8:57 pm OH THE Genesis GV70 is getting an EV variant I believe
