Yeah I think that’s a very reasonable ask but it’s also great you’re trying to go into it with a positive attitude.

Plus, I'd personally feel pretty silly telling people not to smoke outside because the residual smell offends me. I guess that's old school mentality?

It is old school, but not without reason. I mean, so many fewer people some now that when you run across a smoker you really notice it. When it was more common I think the smell was generally less offensive.

It’s more the concern for baby’s health. I don’t have any problem with them smoking outside at all, it’s more bringing the smell inside and wanting to hold the baby immediately after.

But, fair points. I suppose a much more realistic approach is just to ask them not to hold the baby shortly after smoking.

Probably a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy at hand as well. If we go into the trip expecting it to suck, it will suck. So go in with the opposite expectation and it just won’t be as bad.

And FWIW I would’ve never thought about the residual smoke smell thing but my wife is a worrier. I kind of see fights in the future when she wants to seek cover from like everything and keep the at home ‘protected’. IDK, it will be interesting.

I do stand by that smoking smells shitty and I don’t want that odor in my house, which I don’t think is unreasonable. And I’ve smoked a lot and will admit to enjoying it, but still gross.

I quit many years ago, but for several years after would still experience the occasional weakness once a year or so when drinking out with people, and holy crap would feel just so bad and be disgusted with the smell the next day.

Also, if he smokes outside, just have another shirt he can change into when they go out there. Throw it in the garage. Guaranteed they smoke less cause they feel silly.

I personally like the smell of smoke even though I hate smoking. I guess I grew up at my grandparents houses where it looked like a pillow of smoke was always in the house. Funny enough, when I smell it, I always think of my grandpa.
