I broke the glass in front of my lens a few weeks ago. Gonna use it as an excuse to get a new phone, :doe: since mine is starting to get slow after 2 years. I'll probably get another :scrooge: unlocked one from Amazon.

I broke down and started getting the insurance. It's such a waste but it's actually paid off this time.
Wife cracked the screen on her new Pixel 3a 2 days after getting it. I was still able to add insurance and did so...that about paid for it right there.

Haven't posted here in a while... so... I am having a shit ass week/month. To be fair #firstworldproblems but they still suck nonetheless.

My mood is a solid 1.5 this am.... I was interviewing at a big Tech Firm... which would have been an absolute homerun of a job. I have experience in hardware... and this was at a software firm which is spending like crazy in HW now... Epic career progression and benefits... the pay was 2x what I am making now... for a lateral move.

That said... all that ended in a No today. I am incredibly bummed... I prepped for the interview etc... however It seems like the role is VERY political as the hiring manager kept grilling me on Hypothetical :fullretard: :sass: situations and how I would handle them. I figured it may not happen after that. I am not a political bullshitter but unfortunately at my level it looks like it is a "skillset" i have to learn. Sigh. My org being fairly flat currently has certainly some benefits.

Off to peasant life I go...

Aw man, sorry to hear that. Frustrating to work hard at an interview just to get that no. Sounds like they were grilling you on cultural fit. I've been interviewing people for an open position in India, and how people work is more important to me than what people do since experience is kind of a dime a dozen, especially in software. In India, people tend to wait around and not take initiative on things, which is tough with time zones. I need someone proactive, and I generally ask a lot of hypothetical scenario questions to judge how they're going to work.

Software is a GRIND.

Ah, that's a bummer man. I would say something encouraging like "don't worry, something better will come along", but it probably won't and you'll be stuck in this same, mundane sub $250k slog until you're too old to go anywhere else, only to be tucked away in the basement level storage facility, like Milton from office space, 'to make room for some of these boxes and things'... complaining about your stapler.

This is the eeyore thread right??

Seriously though, purely anecdotal here but mid 2021 I was convinced my professional life was over. Dead in the fuckin water. "Concerts dude? That shit is never coming back." while every Tom Dick and Sally supposedly moved to one of those weird idyllic small towns you read about in Hemispheres Magazine on the United Flights (pre covid ofcourse..) that are voted like "top 10 small towns to live in" so they could make like 10000000 dollars a year doing some unexplainable zoom-based 'remote work' job, I was fucked. I was seriously considering weird drastic measures. Was convinced I was done. Toast. Went from a respectable middle-class poor man's existence to waiting on that Fed and State unemployment to hit the ol' BofA edd debit card. All while I paid alimony somehow and tried to put on a 'everythings FINE' face to the kids (they're young, luckily they don't notice as much..). Fast forward to August of last year I was brought back part time hourly at $50 and hour, basically being used 'as needed' and I thought, ok, different division, new possibilities, but I stayed cautious. Afterall, there was no real commitment on the company's part.. it was nothing more than a glimmer. And then in Feb of this year they absorbed me into the Matrix proper-like, salary, bonuses, expense account, all that stuff and things are looking OK. Moral of the story, something else probably WILL come around brah. Especially with real tech bro skills. Guys like you always in demand. The literal black plague could come back and people's legs could just be falling off with rats running in the streets and you'd be doing some remote tech bro job, just running over lepers in your washing machine.

Aw dang, that sucks. These dodo birds don't know what they're throwing away, your experience in HW would be perfect for the role they are filling.

If and when you're inclined, I'd love to know what kind of scenarios they painted and how you responded. As hairbrained as it may seem, maybe they have a very skewed priority list and your logical approach to problem solving doesn't cater to some woke-ism or some shit.

Hope things work out for the best, looking at it from outside in, I'd say that you're doing awesome for yourself and are easy ahead of everyone I know your age. Financial success is a lifelong process for most of us and takes sacrifice, so don't rush it.

No way man, it's too political and it is sucking my into a dark place when I think about it or talk about it.

I wiggle out most of my day but I can't move on, so I patiently wait for better days. I used to be a much more optimistic person than this and I hate being in this rut.

So my macbook has partially shat a brick along with my dashcam that I recently just installed, but I think the dashcam is easier to resolve, although it is time consuming when it comes to keeping my files.

By shatting a brick, it still works, but with a caviat. As long as it stays on the charger, it felt like starting an old car now. Not to mention, it doesn't even let me show the battery on the menu bar above where you see wifi, time, bluetooth and so on. I sat my ass down in covfefe shop today like a :millennial: as I'm off at the hotel for today and have some things to do that I needed my laptop for. So I powered it on, nothing. Plugged in my charger, again nothing :dafuq: my macbook would normally turn on right away once I hit the power button and its on charger. For the time being I was somewhat :rage: I looked up, and turns out I somehow have to hold the power button for 10 seconds and after the 10 seconds have passed, I have to plug the charger in and it opens. The fan just kept on running continously non-stop. Once I pull the plug, it instantly turns off. I'm not ready for a new macbook just yet nor I need one right now. I'm close to paying off my best buy card and I plan to finance a new one later this year or next year when the time is right and when it's time to become more useful for me. My ipad does quite a lot of the stuff that my mac does, but I keep all my files on there amongst other things.

Now onto the dashcam, this have happened to me before and I believe all I have dones was format the SD card because the memory was loaded. I can't delete clips off the dashcam itself, so I got myself a new sd card and used its adaptor on the sd card that my dashcam came with. It is now loading on my macbook as we speak, even though it does take time. I just hope I have an usb flash drive that can accommodate all my files. Probably the last thing I needed a little over a week before I go to Turkey and Amsterdam. I already got everything my friends and family wanted me to bring from the greatest country in the universe.

Hope it gets a lot easier here on out.

@Max sorry to hear it man, that is frustrating, particularly when you have the skills required and put in work prepping for the interviews. Other things certainly will come your way but each application/interview is a big time suck and :rage: when it turns out to be a time waste.

I’m starting to get rather :disgust: with my lack of commission of late. Growth goal in June against June ‘21 was 49 fucking percent… so I hit 40% growth and yet still get almost zero commission for that.

@TK how old is this MacBook? That sucks. Seems like maybe their quality has taken a turn for the worst in recent years.

Maybe re-image the hard drive and start fresh? Could also need a battery replacement.

Its a 2014 15 incher. I had the battery changed almost 2 years ago cause it just turned off after 30 mins off charge after full charge. Now I don't know exactly whats going on now, it was never like this before. The fan is just louder, my tech geeky dad thinks its fan related. I plan on doing back up before my departure. Then take it to a apple store in Turkey to resolve the issue.

I just looked at the new macbooks, and it's essentially a car payment for a year... I can't justify to :troywax: almost $3,000 on something I know I won't be using much atleast for now. Let alone I already dumped that much for plane tickets to Turkey. But if I will have the need to use it often, then I may finance it via best buy as I have their cc, Currently paying off my phone plan so needless to say, no new phone atleast after 6 months i pulled the new macbook plunge. My 13 pro still works flawlessly, so I don't need a replacement for atleast until another year. Other than a few exceptions, my ipad does most of the things i need/want for now. Its a bit overkill for a new one for now.

I mean, eight years is a pretty good run for a laptop it seems. $3K is indeed a shit ton... that's a :nope: from me. I have a 2012 MBP but I almost ever use it and generally just use the work laptop.

I am still on iPhone 8 :lolol: you should be able to manage a 13 for another year no problem.

The camera is now shit, but it's otherwise :thisisfine: I am pretty :aintcare: about new phones, particularly since I can just throw my work one in airplane mode on trips and stuff if I want a better camera.

Some of the scenarios involved overzealous engineers, and bridging that gap with the ops/go to market teams in order to achieve success. :wat:

The question was VAGUE AF by design, overzealous how? What does ops want etc? It left me with more questions than answers. Ironically i have done everything that was asked in the interview. It was just like a wackamole type interview where she shows me 10% of the problem and expects 90% of the solution. Sometimes more input is necessary to really understand what was being asked...

After it was done about a week ago I had my strong doubts already because I felt like the questions really didn't paint a good picture of the internal workings and showed a lot of turmoil and misalignment within the org.

That said I also know that they are burning through 10billion... yes billion annually. So perhaps this is for the best.

Yea I think the targets for everyone were set based on Unobtanium goals this year. No one will bonus... mark my words. Or it'll be a fraction. So you're not alone and the grass is not going to be greener else where. Now is the time to hunker down.
