Gberg's Covid Placitis?

Brothers of brub and brap, this is your safe space.

But what should I do? :crang:

Do nothing and hold out for a "fun" car like a 987 Gayman S, ND2 Miata, etc.

If you drive quite a bit, you have garage space for all of the cars, you enjoy cleaning/wrenching, sure, having a 'tool for each job' is pretty awesome. A GorF and a Cayman would be quite :megusta: in my opinion.

That said, it is 2X the maintenance, 2X the sunk costs like insurance and registration/taxes. For me, it was more a source of stress/guilt that both cars weren't being driven enough or taken care of well enough.

I'm sure I will do it again at some point, if I ever drive significantly more and have better car storage, but it can also be a headache to own multiple cars.
Yea I can't stand keeping cars outside. They rot... You can only keep something nice inside. I don't care what anyone says.

The sun obliterates rubber and plastic and makes it fade etc. A garaged or at least carport'ed car shows far less wear after a comparable time frame.

The woman's TSX was always garaged before we moved here and I decided to go :fullretard: with 2 cars + hers... so it staid outside... birdshit... leafs all over car and engine bay daily.... water stains from rains etc. It is :disgust compared to the pampered indoor life.

I read in the autorags something about lubing the brake calipers as a maintenance item on a Tesla. They claimed there was no real savings in regards to maintenance though. Might have been C&D.
https://www.tesla.com/support/car-maintenance

Impossible. EV's simply do not have the same levels of maintenance. It looks like brake fluid and cabin air filters only. And brakes last forever essentially. It is one of the biggest selling points IMO, especially if you compare to maintenance heavy vehicles.

No need to send a service advisor to space on virgin galactic to give thanks.
It was this article which they’re including windshield, roof, and tire replacement in the maintenance. :bs:

Hell, it’s around $1k for a windshield on the Gorf.

Yea, that article was :bs: with the windshield and tire replacements included. That's ANY car. Windshields are just :waxer: now, no way around it.

This too. I only have a 1 car garage which the R currently occupies. It’s not the biggest garage either but the R fits fine. With how big some of these sedans are getting I’m not sure they’d fit.

When we first moved, our garage was full of furniture and shit and I couldn't believe how quickly the vehicles started to look shitty parked outside all the time. Cucktrek has spent it's entire life in the garage, and after 5 months still looks new.

You can take care of a car that lives outside, it's a shit ton more work though, and you will ultimately wind up with more wear.

It's been almost 5 years combined with both R's so I definitely have a case of placitis and with the used car market being what it is right now the thought of trading in the R has been on my mind for a few months. I'll likely be able to get more for it on trade than what I paid for it. Of course, this means I have to replace it with something.

Getting a new car sadly means you can't even negotiate and you will get a marked up value. My 2.0t accord sport that I just bought has about 2,500$ markup, thus making it more expensive than it should be.

New job has a 3 mile commute each way and the short commute has put doubts in my mind about the long term reliability of the R seeing as how I had a similar commute in my Mk6 and that car was a disaster. All that turning off and on so quick, fluids never getting up to temp, and so on. With such a short commute I've thought about electrification and the Model 3 is the only one that really interests me.

In this situation I think electric is the best choice for your driving situation, maybe get it as a daily and then get a fun little car on weekends/warm weather and the like

With a short commute I've also thought about going the complete other way and getting something with lousy fuel economy. I'm really liking the new RS3 but it means no more :manuel: which I'm still :notsure: on and who knows about availability.

S4 and M340i look alright but are maybe a bit...boring?

The new s4 does not come with a manual, as far as 3 series go with the G chassis, it will be the g80 m3. Which is a lot of money from the start.

I was also too looking to get an m340, until I realized how bad the market really is and how the inventory is lacking. But m2 competition costs the same as the mid specced m340i and comes with the :manuel: But they don't have THAT much of a weight difference between the 2, the m2c is more go-karty given it's shorter wheelbase. Unlike the f30 340i, the current m340i comes with LSD standard.

On top of that, the inline 6's of the BMW's (especially b58's and n55's require 10 mins of sane driving till it warms up), had to point that out given your commute.

Mk8 R, not interested.

The option that makes the most sense is to do absolutely nothing and keep the alpo R. Drive it and :aintcare: since I still have about 4 years left on the b2b warranty. It's also just about paid off so that means I could move to a 2 car lyfe and maybe get a 987 Gayman S, ND2 Miata, and so on. However, the market would need to settle first before I buy any kind of second car as obviously prices are a bit insane.
Some answers are in the bolded.

Maybe for the time being, try to waste time with sales breh's for some numbers and see whats best for you (definitely don't expect to be as low/fair as it would be for the normal times), also check inventories first (fwiw, I checked a few local bmw dealers and they only have 2 m340i's). If it seems right to you, :doit: . Also if you look at the dealers new car inventory and don't see cars in their parking lot, like a white canvas background (how my car was) are the ones that are set to order if you put any sort of deposit down.

Fun is obviously subjective... but I just don't find these cars all that fun and most journalists seem to agree. I watched/listened to two reviews this week to this point. One was the Throttle Howse bros trying a Plaid, where they were like 'yeah, it is fucking fast as fuck but COMPLETELY falls apart in turns/braking'. They claimed it was the most underbraked car they've ever tested. Matt Farrah said something similar re: Audi's offering - very fast/powerful but extremely crashable (his words) because the breaks, grip, handling couldn't keep up on a canyon road.

My only personal experience was a P90D, drove it on a highway as well as a mountain road in WA. It was certainly fast as hell, made my 'vette seem like a damn VW Beetle, but it was kind of  on the mountain road.

Again though, it just isn't really my thing, so take my thoughts with a grain of :salt: . I am pretty :aintcare: on acceleration. As long as I'm under 7 seconds to 60, :thisisfine:

EVs don’t have sound, and they are heavy AF.

So unless they have the tech and acceleration to entertain you they are not worth while. You take out one or the other and they are boring as shit.

Hence Tesla #winning

I’ve been trying to competitively shop and there is nothing out there … id4? Slow as shit and boring, ionic seems slowish and lacks the polished tech and you’d be a beta tester for Hyundai …
Mach E is closest but they cost as much as Tesla … don’t have a front trunk … somewhat slower and Ford …
Bmw ix is hideous even more so than Tesla or ford
There is really nothing else in the 50-70k range

The throttle house video was abysmal garbage. The model S plaid holds the WORLD RECORD of a 4 door sedan on a TRACK.

Not saying it is the best thing to drive ever, but it is obviously the fastest.

Man, the Ford hate around here is funny. Has anyone actually owned one and had a bad experience? My Taurus ran to 250 K miles with like zero issues. I personally know a lot of people with some pretty shitty old Fords that all work quite well.
