:word:

With the exception of the folks that travel through high elevations with real snow, having AWD or an LSD isn’t really required

Honestly, the absolute worst thing in snow is a 2wd pickup. Everything after that is an improvement.
True dat, the 240sx on crappy tars was a close second and I pulled it off with two years of driving experience... climbing slight inclines on a 30 degree approach angle the whole way up lol. Most of us are rich enough to have enhanced driving experiences so it comes down to what we each want most. I like the awd personally but can downgrade to 2wd, even rwd on snows in the future without batting an eye.
I know the feels on the 240. My 2wd OG Colorado w/ a locking diff on highway tars got stuck in 3” of snow on my apartment’s Street. It was already late as I was working 2nd shift and I had just spent 2 hours driving through the shit to get home on what is normally a 45 min drive. I left it in the street and walked up to my apartment and went to bed.

Does it? That’s what TC is for. If you spin you spin.
:dat:

I don’t know how the millions of non-lsd FWD cars get anywhere in the frozen north.

Tires>>>>>>>>>AWD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>lsd
I never said they didn’t? If you forego the tires which 85% of the country doesn’t need because they don’t get enough snow to justify them, and assess on all-season tires like everyone drives on, then your chart seems to reflect exactly what I’m saying that AWD is best and LSD is second.

With all cars on good tires, my deadly RWD car is easier to drive than the open diff FF appliances I've had... Maybe not quite as easy as AWD but I've only ever gotten stuck with 2WD + open diff.

Local guy is selling these, I'm considering buying them for the same price as a new set of tires alone. I figure that I may get 2 yrs out of them and either sell the prets or the bbs wheels to fund the final set of tires I'll need to round out my R ownership. Gotta get some tread depths first to be sure.

What tread depth do new MPSS typically come with?

In that size, 9/32" of tread would be what they come with new.

Those are nice :ramz: :doe:
Thanks :mahman: , that guy is selling the setup for a little over $1000! :want:

My point is that 85% doesn’t NEED any of those things.

And yes AWD on mediocre tires will make up for a lot. However, FWD, open diff, on semi-decent all seasons will do just fine. And anything on good tires will do even better.

I mean whatever I buy I hope it comes with 800 tread wear all seasons that last 60k and are $55 each to replace.

Might as well just get a scooter or walk then. You're killing the environment with your car for a slow drive.

With so few miles driven, such distaste for cars in the current sitch, why not just Lyft/rent a car when one is needed, it would likely be cheaper...

It would be kind of cool living a life that doesn't require a car.
