You can buy these military surplus for like $5k.
Might need some work with the DMV but it’s doable.

Edit: my apologies, I forgot you were Canadian.
Please accept this bottle of Molson and maple syrup as pittance.
We deserve it, as a military presence we are basically Switzerland, except that our PM is a professional clown.

That's a nice Range Rover you got there, it would be a shame if it got stuck in Death Valley.

It's eleven grand. Amuse yourself for a year. Go to Tahoe. Load it with wine in Napa. I don't even understand the backpedaling.

RR :doomed: thing... I will call the guy next. He hasn't responded to my Email.
Backpedaling is due to me wanting a simple non depreciating non headache car...

So i know this is far more money than the RR. But I am anticipating 0 headaches on this thing... It would also be about 5-8k cheaper than a wrangler... with a similar depreciation schedule and (more space) inside since i am considering 2 door
What is dis? Link doesn’t go anywhere...

I’d love to see you get the RR just out of curiosity’s sake.

Also this is the car I like the most... but likely another "non negotiable" price point and that's 30k OTD... :disgust: its that or a 2007 model with 150k miles possibly fked rear end... possibly buckled fenders (i'd check that out before). For 15k OTD.

JL sport brand new would be more my thing at that price point, but that's because I'd value the open air experience while offloading.

This cuts the taxes in half at least. You could probably tell if the rear end is pooched by driving it around a bit and that's the biggest repair expense. Dont love the black personally, it doesn't suit the style which is kind of sporty, fun and adventurous.... plus they come in many cool colors if that's a priority.

Yea but that’s probably even more price creep... 34,7k msrp is the absolute cheapest JL that I like... it would take some major deal hunting to get it down to 26...

How much extra depreciation/tax loss at 30k JL vs repairs/depreciation/tax loss on the 15k FJ is the real question of cost right? I'm guessing its within a couple of thousand dollars, so it is whatever you like backroading in more.

Depreciation/repairs/tax is actual cost not the sticker price. If it is a wash after two or less years then pick the more appealing one. Doesn't that make sense to you?

To be 100% honest I am not sure if I have value in the JL. It would be a bit of a compromise as it would be a 2 door soft top with :manuel: but not 100% set on that yet. The FJ has a really nice size and form factor for me, as I don't really need a 4 door but a 2 door is a bit too small.

That said... Lets just assume I get 6k off sticker... 28.7K +TLRetc ~ 32k I will likely own it for 2 years tops. Given my :plac: life. That'll make it around 25k trade it tops... so around 7k + more expensive insurance but its negligible.

to compare with a 13k FJ, it'll need about $1300 ttlr, ~ 14.3 even if I get nothing off... so it'll be worth 11/12k in 2 years I don't expect it to go anywhere. +2k in repair and maintenance... so.. it'll cost about 1/2 of what a JL will run. Granted the JL will be a brand new vehicle.

But what it goes down to is where I see the value. This is a toy, will I get 2x the fun out of JL over an FJ, is the real question. Not necessarily the cash outlay.

There's an opportunity cost due to the cash flow hit. But I highly doubt a $15k FJ and a $34k JL will be within a few thousand all in after 2 years.
