Yeah, we shouldn't have to go it alone on policing the world any more.
Others have significantly smaller budgets for the military so they are not really on our page. That won’t change unless they tax their heavily taxed populations even more. And their people don’t want it
This might be more loaded of a question that might be deemed offensive to some, IDK. I'm going to ask it for and throw my on, since I'm pretty sure we are sitting here smuggly with very little military contribution ourselves...
Is it possible that maintaining this high of military presence has a self-serving/preserving element to it?
Called a local bike shop and was told they have over 9,000 bikes on back order.
Fuckin nuts

The cast came off this morning. Scar is gnarly looking and stitches stay in for another couple of weeks.
The elbow feels pretty strong, and swelling is pretty well controlled. I’ve already gained another 10 degrees or so of motion now the hardware is out of there, and I’m feeling a stretch in muscles that I haven’t used for almost a year now. It’s only going to improve from here.
I start PT in earnest tomorrow, but things feel good. I sat on my bike this afternoon and was able to get my wrist almost flat on the handlebars, which I wasn’t able to do last week.
Pumped.
I'm really impressed with the caliber of care you received.
So am I, but I sought out a well respected elbow and wrist specialist that is also a trauma surgeon for a reason. He’s been absolutely fantastic about working to get me back to an active lifestyle, not just a functional recovery.
By the time it’s all said and done I’ll have lost 5-10% range of motion, but the man saved my arm. It’s not over yet, but a ton of work for me to keep doing now.

For the Military Industrial Complex, sure.

I'm well aware. do we have to spend more than the next 10 counties COMBINED?
Madness.
To keep the dollar strong. And to be on top of The worlds power pyramid as we are

Sure, but it's my opinion that it impacts politic and financial influence as well. , oil prices in middle east for example?

Because companies like Lockheed, Northrup, Boeing, ULA, etc etc etc make an absurd amount of money off the deal and some of it ends up back in Congressional pockets.
2010 Audi TT APR Stg1 (sold) >> 2012 BMW 335i FBO (sold) >> 2009 Miata zoom-zoom spec "Cheese" (sold) >> 2022 Hyundai Elantra N + 1999 Miata Maacover Project
It is also not really fair to compare a country like Japan or South Korea to the US as far as military budgets go.
a) they are 3-8x smaller in population
b) we have severely limited their armies after that little fun situation called WW2.

Yep there's a good reason that the Japanese Military is the "Self Defense Force" or whatever its called.

True, but I would have thought S. Korea's budget would have been more. Though, I don't know how it compares to ours on a per capita basis.

FWIW China is heavily investing in their military.

Wife got the official NO today on long-term remote work, so apparently we aren't going to FL. Fuck New York and fuck everyone else too. I hate this planet.

So you're backing out of the pruchase? I thought you were going regardless, even alone if necessary?

Oof.
Did they give you a timeframe on when she'd have to return to the office?
Was gonna say, fly the coop to Florida, and start looking for work, and when they say its time to come in, and
Troy, what does she do exactly?

Been looking for jobs for months (really more like 5+ years now), it ain't happening. Obviously we need diamond coated bootstraps.

Man I should be excited about moving. It's something I've thought I wanted for years no, and the place I wanted as well, but I can't help but feel sad that there's some people I can't share this experience or life change with. It's really bumming me out. Getting close though. I expect to be on my way with a van this time next Monday.
Obviously both of us should have gone into software/finance but we're too stupid.
Check PM’s.
