I am really feeling theat the moment. I love the Corvette as everyone knows. I bought the C5 in 2014 for $18.5K OTD and I've owned it free and clear since 2016. I've taken to about 20 track days, the Tail of the Dragon at least four times, I've driven it to Miami multiple times, Connecticut once, and around the Carolinas. I've added 45K or so miles, many of them full on urban. I've spent about $13K on maintenance and mods. It has proven to actually be cheap, reliable, and fast. The huge hatch + trailer hitch have made it even work as a camping/trip vehicle pretty well. I will be sad to see this car go whenever it does, but I think it may be time for a different experience.
As things stand, I only drive about 5-7K per year, a good 20% of that is track events. I doubt I'll be commuting much anytime soon, if we go back to the office, it would likely be part time and I would likely commute by bike mostly. I am probably starting a new role later this year where I'll be on the road much more, probably driving rentals. I'd like to be able to continue doing track events, but I would be fine with 3-5 per year rather than the 7-10 I've been doing, really I'm more into cycling at the moment.
So, requirements:
-Fun
-Trackable at least occasionally
-Manual only
-Ability to add a trailer hitch and haul bikes
Would be nice:
-RWD preferred
-something unique... I'd love to have a conversation starter car - Corvette isn't that cool, a 1995 MR2 turbo is
-a decent amount of cargo room for weekend trips/tools for track events/camping
-convertible would be fun (has to have factory roll over protection)
-back seat would be nice
-mid-engine would be ideal, or something new to me experience-wise
-something that will hold value respectably well, this may not be another seven year car.
Budget... I'mIdeally $20-25K but could probably go much higher if I was very compelled.
Right now I'm thinking about S2000s, Boxsters, E90 M3s, Minis, maybe an STI as it would be so different. Am I missing anything? It's annoying that I always come back to "the Corvette fits my needs/wants better than anything else sub $40K"... but what should I do?![]()
First time in a year at a local restaurant was last week for lunch. We have ordered takeout from time to time. I don't have a problem going to certain restaurants in Mexico. Mexico has, BY FAR, taken a way more proactive approach to restaurant dining than the U.S. Every restaurant (decent ones, not supah low rent) has a COVID solution shoe bath and takes your temperature, no exceptions. 70% also have pulse oximeters. In addition, I only go to ones featuring outside/open window dining and LOW CROWDS. That means weekday dining. Mexicans ain't got no time for bitching about government overreach,max225 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:18 pmI find it ironic that you went to an eatery even though you claim to lead life by Covid avoidance example.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:14 pm Last COVID story in Griff's car thread. We actually have a flight booked to the US Virgin Islands next month, foolishly booked on the cheap 6-8 months ago when we thought COVID would actually end for some stupid reason. We haven't decided if we are going or not yet... similar situation to the situation you described with Hawaii but allegedly cases are high. If we don't do that, we will likely drive to FL for the week.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:28 pmnow we're talking. You have a great jeep. Put it to use. Record # of people that already had it, warming weather + vaccine is a triple threat.
I would try to get out now... because come next fall, we will likely get a new vaccine resistant strain and it's back to cucking at home.

Yeah that is a no-go for me as well. The places here are rather well trafficked. There are rules in place for distance and stuff but they seem loose at best. That is what's really gotten me down, the weather has been fucking terrible and can't do a damn thing outside.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:18 pmI find it ironic that you went to an eatery even though you claim to lead life by Covid avoidance example.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:14 pm Last COVID story in Griff's car thread. I do think the E9X will be a future classic and is at the very bottom of depreciation curve. With limited miles put on one it would be fun to own IMO. But anything more than 5000 a year is a nightmare.
I would think something on Turo even as egregiously expensive as $300 a day would be worth while.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:43 pmI actually really like the Z... it's just not feeling "special"max225 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:46 pm Now to get this back on track.

The Evo is a pretty great idea. That would certainly be different. I wonder if there's any way to try one out.

It shouldn't be too projecty if you find the right one. The swaps are common and well-documented. I'm sure you could find a nice specimen in the Fiero Facebook groups/forums.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:41 pmHuckleberry wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:50 pm
