This one is better... even has had rod bearings done at 55k.
Dat or C63? Do they both have rod issues?
I am aware no :manuel: in the Benz.

C63 has head bolt issues, no rod bearings issues. And no :manuel: no care for Mr Griff. The M is a bit more common and a bit cheaper to own IMO because parts are a little more common as well.

Last COVID story in Griff's car thread. Sitting with the wife in a local sushi/brewery in MX. Dude and his wife come in with the obligatory 3 crotchfruit who are exhibiting less discipline than marines in combat. I give them the :disgust:. Guy's wife says "do you want to sit outside?" Guy says.......pointing at me........."this guy doesn't want us in here." First I felt bad, but only for a few seconds, because in fact, I DIDN'T want to be around his booger spreading rabble. If I did I would be at Chucky Cheese.

I bought the C5 in 2014 for $18.5K OTD and I've owned it free and clear since 2016. I've taken to about 20 track days, the Tail of the Dragon at least four times, I've driven it to Miami multiple times, Connecticut once, and around the Carolinas. I've added 45K or so miles, many of them full on urban. I've spent about $13K on maintenance and mods. It has proven to actually be cheap, reliable, and fast. The huge hatch + trailer hitch have made it even work as a camping/trip vehicle pretty well. I will be sad to see this car go whenever it does, but I think it may be time for a different experience.

As things stand, I only drive about 5-7K per year, a good 20% of that is track events. I doubt I'll be commuting much anytime soon, if we go back to the office, it would likely be part time and I would likely commute by bike mostly. I am probably starting a new role later this year where I'll be on the road much more, probably driving rentals. I'd like to be able to continue doing track events, but I would be fine with 3-5 per year rather than the 7-10 I've been doing, really I'm more into cycling at the moment.

So, requirements:
-Fun
-Trackable at least occasionally
-Manual only
-Ability to add a trailer hitch and haul bikes

Would be nice:
-RWD preferred
-something unique... I'd love to have a conversation starter car - Corvette isn't that cool, a 1995 MR2 turbo is
-a decent amount of cargo room for weekend trips/tools for track events/camping
-convertible would be fun (has to have factory roll over protection)
-back seat would be nice
-mid-engine would be ideal, or something new to me experience-wise
-something that will hold value respectably well, this may not be another seven year car.

Budget... I'm :notsure: Ideally $20-25K but could probably go much higher if I was very compelled.

Right now I'm thinking about S2000s, Boxsters, E90 M3s, Minis, maybe an STI as it would be so different. Am I missing anything? It's annoying that I always come back to "the Corvette fits my needs/wants better than anything else sub $40K"... but what should I do? :crang:

First time in a year at a local restaurant was last week for lunch. We have ordered takeout from time to time. I don't have a problem going to certain restaurants in Mexico. Mexico has, BY FAR, taken a way more proactive approach to restaurant dining than the U.S. Every restaurant (decent ones, not supah low rent) has a COVID solution shoe bath and takes your temperature, no exceptions. 70% also have pulse oximeters. In addition, I only go to ones featuring outside/open window dining and LOW CROWDS. That means weekday dining. Mexicans ain't got no time for bitching about government overreach,
QANON plots, conspiracy theories and "muh rights" stuff, they just get on it and try to stay safe.

I am assuming 370z is just "not liked" which is perfectly fine some of us don't like a particular vehicle design etc.

The pickin's are slim if you don't want depreciation... Mainly because used is as much as new almost... and new has a ways to fall... and "classic" cars are just simply not made for a track.

What about Mitsubishi Evo X ?

I actually really like the Z... it's just not feeling "special" :iono:

The Evo is a pretty great idea. That would certainly be different. I wonder if there's any way to try one out.

:mahtroy: now we're talking. You have a great jeep. Put it to use. By the time you're out of the house the covid #s will be a lot lower. We're going to go through a rapid decline in the cases over the next few weeks. Record # of people that already had it, warming weather + vaccine is a triple threat.

I would try to get out now... because come next fall, we will likely get a new vaccine resistant strain and it's back to cucking at home.
We actually have a flight booked to the US Virgin Islands next month, foolishly booked on the cheap 6-8 months ago when we thought COVID would actually end for some stupid reason. We haven't decided if we are going or not yet... similar situation to the situation you described with Hawaii but allegedly cases are high. If we don't do that, we will likely drive to FL for the week.

Yeah that is a no-go for me as well. The places here are rather well trafficked. There are rules in place for distance and stuff but they seem loose at best. That is what's really gotten me down, the weather has been fucking terrible and can't do a damn thing outside.

I like how you talked around the fact that we don't even have open restaurants here. STAY HOME STAY SAFE.

This virus has proven that no matter what you do as a state, masks etc. They do NOT matter anywhere near as much as we're told. Look no further than california vs florida as far as the numbers are concerned. Social distancing i.e being a cuck at home is really the only way. I just find it ironic that so many think they really have it figured out and judge others for being outside when they are doing the same thing. :sissyfight:

Rod bearings are a thing... but there are many ways around the issue. He has found a forum bro that does 3-4 a week out of his garage. Has done about 200/300 of them locally. Charges ~1k in labor + parts ($850). But that's a 1 in 5 years type of thing... ~$500 a year is negligible in expensive car ownershit.

I do think the E9X will be a future classic and is at the very bottom of depreciation curve. With limited miles put on one it would be fun to own IMO. But anything more than 5000 a year is a nightmare.

They are more focused on 7 series. But plenty of lovely people "Graduating" from modded to shit BRZs into E90s. That's what I am seeing.

That said, I think OEM kept non beat to shit examples will shine over time. As they are getting more and more rare.

I never really cared for the EVO X. The EVO VIII/VIIII was a bit more silly...legit a Lancer with AWD and stupid power. The EVO X got to be a bit more purposed, and that made it lose some appeal for me, but I like sleepers.

For $16,300 more Dollhairs you can have an Ellis Tres with 1/5 of the miles.
