Finding a $15k Cayman is the hard part, and then selling it again for $15k will be immensely difficult wading through all the people asking for records, etc. Yes it will sell for $15k eventually, but it'll be a hassle dealing with the :derp:

Selling my $7k 951 was ridiculous.

But I know I'm :wrong: and it's #fakenews.
Sell it to carmax for maximum :aintcare:
This is not the worst idea.

I love me some RX8. I really want a Miata doe. Drop top and all. For the muggings and bus exhaust fumes and fuck my ear drums.
I want my FR-S back.
I'd be curious for back to back comparos but [user not found]'s modded-to-hell NC seemed to ride better than the stock BRZ I test drove. I mean it should though, better suspension design. The legless-child seat of the BRZ is kinda nice though.

Now, buying a $40k+ 987.2S is a different story. You're locked into :waxer: :dillerman: service if you want to get that money back on resale... plus the car has more expensive parts on it anyway.

The spec for a 987.2S that I'd want over a basic bolt-on 987.1 is $50k and impossible to find: S in a real color with Sport Buckets (not sport seats, the $4k bucket option), LSD, Sport Chrono, PASM, :manuel: and ideally PCCB but those are just cool and not necessary. It costs double to buy and at least double to maintain, it's not really an option.

The idea is to expect depreciation on the $15k car because it is not special. Take the extra money that you didn't spend on :dillerman: maintenance and 18" tires, PASM shocks, sales tax, annual property taxes, etc. and consider THAT savings to be worth losing $5k on the $15k car.

The difference in taxes alone probably covers the difference in depreciation.

Nobody gives a damn about front engine Porsches anyway, I'm not surprised that they're hard to sell. I'd never buy one.

No, no...there was ample demand. It was the hoops people wanted me to jump through with inspections, records, fixing things before delivery, etc, etc...THAT was the pain and from what I understand is unique to people looking to buy Porsches. Any Porsche.

I guess a $10k Cayman will sell to anyone with minimal effort, but it's still going to be more of a pain than selling a Corolla.

"Enthusiasts" have zero tolerance for paint swirls, lack of documented maintenance, DIY maintenance and fixes, etc. Whereas a $10k corolla buyer will be ecstatic they have a reliable car that gets good fuel mileage and who cares about that bird shit stain on the paint?

Maybe I'm :wrong: but I don't think that the Cayman is like that. Everyone who likes great handling cars wants one, not just everyone who likes Porsches. I wish that there was a newer MR2/Fiero coupe that I could buy instead, I have no interest in paying for and displaying the Porsche badge.

It's the only DD-able semi-affordable car on the market with a proper MR layout and probably will remain that way forever.

The "Porsche guys" see 987 prices holding relatively steady and are all :butwhy: because for a little bit more money you can buy a 911 - Why would you want anything but a 911?

I totally get the desire, but I just think selling one will be a monumental pain because of the badge. Though, if you're buying a $15k car and looking to sell it for $10k, it probably won't be that bad.

P-tax man. I also don't wanna deal with old car problems right now.
Yeah, but who does want to deal with old car problems and Porsche tax in a water cooled 4-cylinder front engine car? That is a tiny market, especially when things like the FRZ exist to do most of the same things better.

Awful exterior color. Dat interior, doe.
The price is quite honestly the most insane price for a Poorshe I have ever encountered.

I think there might be 6 figure 914's by now, dunno if that's worse. :disgust:

An X1/9 which is cooler in many ways, on the other hand, is 4 figures. :dafuq:

I hate vehicle speculation in general anymore.

Just makes people :triggered: about driving a car.
:dat:

It's another reason not to spend the extra :wasteful: on a perfect 987.2S, NSX, GT3, etc. with resale value as the means of affording it... the more you drive the thing, the less likely you are to get that money back. I want a car that I can drive 15k miles a year without blowing $5k+ in depreciation+maintenance per year.
