Yes. We are not living in poverty. But we certainly do not make the most money. My base pay is $2950 a month. Then factor in the sub par healthcare and my housing. I make about $4250 a month before taxes.
Take into consideration that many of us only have a high school education on the enlisted side. The Air Force provides many opportunities and encourages continuing education. Whether or not someone goes beyond an associates is up to them. But you will never make any senior ranks without it.
I am done my associates and will begin working towards my bachelors this fall.
Dang, I'd have hoped it was more. Still not a turrible
Super common misconception. Many military individuals either live well below their means. Or contain zero understanding of financial responsibility. They rack up credit cards and rely on deployments or some form of special pay to get back out of debt.
I have friends who are in 10k of cc debt just waiting for a deployment to pay it off and restart all over.

Does that take into account the fact that you are less likely to put yourself into a questionable situation if you don't carry a gun?
A reasonable person would avoid doing something in the first place if they felt that they needed a gun to do it.
I don't know enough about the study to comment and am not sure that is verified either way.
Most murders and suicides occur in the home, by a significant margin, so I think that drives a lot of those statistics.

just like that "all gun deaths" statistic that the media likes to quote INCLUDES people SHOT by POLICE & suicides by gun. Take those out and it goes down by like a third.

That's how they roll with that shit. Take out the people who weren't wearing seat belts and the number of deaths in car crashes goes down by about half.
I think it's fair to count suicide and anyone who was armed and shot by police

You certainly can't take suicides out. Shot by police... I think you can take out the ones where someone is committing a crime and is shot. You shouldn't take out an improper shooting if the person was armed.
Don't you commit crimes every day, while carrying a gun? (speeding)
Of course you're a white giant, so you probably have never been pulled over... but that just seems like a bad idea if you aren't packing a silver with a bunch of cop+politician+military and other powerful friends and family connections.

DFD. The forum where everybody makes the same choices and then tells anybody trying to join the club that they are the stupidest motherfucker to ever walk the earth.

Feels good having gained all this weight. It's slowing down a bit, so time to increase the calories. I was 221.4 for my check in last friday. Hoping to see 222.5 this week, then we'll probably bump it up 300-500 calores.

Yea why would you take suicides out of that stat? That's stupid.

I disagree. if one were to say "guns killed 5k people last year" and include suicides.... i mean that technically true but if guns were illegal those suicides would likely find another way to kill them selves anyway.
also that "guns killed" language invokes thoughts of murder, and that's not what the statistic is for.

how is it stupid? suicide is a victim less crime. Can you victimize yourself?? Is it good? No. But no one else was physically harmed in the act.
