RE: the bolded... I think no. You could seriously make yourself sick worrying about the world/mankind right now and the future. I think you sort of have to make the best of what you've got and try not to think about it. I still save a lot via the 401K but it has been kind of disturbing seeing our "cash on hand" lose tons of value. I guess it's made up for it in house appreciation but we can't afford any other house now so what does it matter? I 50% expect the 401K thing to before I can ever take advantage too, so in the meantime, I am doing my best trying to just be happy and enjoy the little things.
I like to have a plan, but things were good for me from 2009 onwards so it will likely be more of the same I guess. Also, life is way better when I'm optimistic and things kind of work off of that. To your point,
Yeah most of us here are in the "rich getting richer" category, this won't fuck us as hard as the poors. I certainly feel a lot less rich than I did a year ago, but it is what it is, I will be fine. I feel sorry for those coming out of COVID still in minimum/low wage jobs, now with everything being 20% more expensive, really sucks for them.
I feel like the longer this goes on, the more people will realize their "retail therapy" isn't really possible over the long haul, particularly as .gov bennies are long gone.
We personally realized we were overspending quite a bit as my income is -$50K from the previous year, so we have dialed back to be pretty minimalist. I can't imagine I'm alone in this, and I have certainly partaken in the 'VID buying frenzy with the Jeep, bike shit, dog, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of the useless cars, campers, bikes, boats, you name it, starting to come up for sale over the winter and spring, driving down prices.
We shall see what happens. I think housing is staying until quarantining is fully over.
I think housing will pop, there is a really scary mismatch between rent to own emerging here. You can now rent for $1500 vs own for $4500 in the same fucking location. That balance will begin to shift soon enough.
Either way I’m fully aware than I’m going to fully lose my ass in the next coming years. But it is relative, because I can also live like scrooge mc duck eating ramen while renting a room in a basement on 3 figures a month.
What’s the use in that when you will croak of cancer in the next 2 decades. Life is too damn short, and most of us here are getting pretty old, so it is time to enjoy it while we can.
This to the 12 billionth power.

Yes it's a cool car. But prepare the lube/sawdust.
So even at a 50% drop, you’re losing 6 months point is life is NOW.
I’m not even counting on my 401k for anything retirement related. Way too far out and too many variables. Also don’t forget 401ks get taxed .
Yeah I'm aware. really. I'm not convinced that retirement in the traditional way will be a thing for most of our generation like it was for our parents... no more pensions, massive inflation, and much longer life expectancies. I know multiple and who worked some job from 20-50 and have been collecting pension for decades not doing shit. That isn't the way of the world anymore.
I am glad to have a job now that's pretty flexible and offers a lot of PTO, I am trying to enjoy shit now. Sure, we save, but who knows if that will ever pay off or not. No reason to focus 100% on that.
The concept of "quitting" work is just not going to be reality for us. That's why we made the decision to do whatever we can to make life easy now so we just spend our days with less stress and easy living instead of killing ourselves for a future that will never arrive. So, I value flexible working with good PTO and balanced work demand...I hope that will be the norm eventually.

Lunch break was 5/7
I decided to spend my lunch hour shoveling off the snow and ice and washing my car since the weather got really nice! Just having a driveway to do that is kind of all I give a shit about anyways.
Yeah the min/low wage earners are already squeezed into bedrooms with shared common areas and piss poor diet choices. It's going to be a tough time. TBD if min wage goes up.

I still hate what I do for work, but the amount of time I have to really dedicate to it is so much lower now that I don't mind it at all. I work on bikes during the day, ride my bike, clean the house, play with the get other chores and shit done... makes weekends more rewarding too.

Same. I can't stand my company or my job as it is, but stress comes in spurts and my work/life balance is FANTASTIC with WFH. I'll do this gig forever if they let me. If they don't, our cost basis is so low that I can work landscaping and snowplowing to make ends meet. I REALLY value that freedom/flexibility.
I really liked the last gen A3/S3 because it reminded me so much of the B5 A4/S4.
This one has proportions that aren't quite right - not sure if it's the slope of the hood or how far they stretched the roofline back into the trunk. Or how the center of the front bumper appears to rise upwards from the outer corners, it looks deformed.

Good video. Also good example of a car going up in price because new and inflation but showing more cost cutting measures throughout.
Exterior design... there is no real good “angle”. The wheels are hideous. The front end is droopy and sad.
Interior... it looks “nice” because it’s “new” but it’s not necessarily better. Digi dash is cool since at least it’s available... the one-piece seat/headrest is interesting. The interior cloth color looks off-black which is... weird? Makes it look worn out already

VW completely half assed it, why ? Diesel gate and electrification, company has no money to spend on any real improvements, so they cut costs and sling garbage.
The new electric models are sucking all the money from the traditional cars. I have been saying it for a bit. VW gas/diesel cars are dead. The next gen electric cars should be interesting though, all the best minds are working on that
The digi-dash is fucking gross. And cheap-looking.
What has more visual interest, a Rolex or an Apple watch? The Rolex has the same qualities now as it will 100 years from now, but that Apple watch could be programmed by Apple, by Google, by fucking Fisher-Price and no one would know the difference looking at it on someone else's wrist, and a year from now there will be a new one out and everyone will be ready to ditch last year's model. Every car is designed in a wind tunnel to look exactly the same, every new car has screens everywhere and are starting to look exactly the same. You can't even build quality into button feel anymore with capacitive bullshit everywhere. I might as well ride around in a golf cart with an iPad my face, it'd be the same experience.

on all points.
I don't see the mk8 as much of an upgrade either other than the fact it's a newer car, I'd be happier on a mk7.5 with PP at that point. I've seen some new cars where I found it ugly and grown out of it, but I know for sure this is an exception, mk7 is a LOT more handsome in comparison. The non-touch button is definitely something that would make me on a daily basis. Would not buy.
While the seats may look more "race car" oriented (reminds me of my neighbors b8 s5 shape wise), the rest well is quite backwards in improvement imo. Also the loseness the materials, that is where I can definitely say right off the bat the VW doesn't live up to the superior interior anymore.
You could tell Matt doesn't seem to like it, as much as he tried to like the 0-60 and such.
I feel like VW is lowkey trying to sway people off gas/diesel cars, I remember reading an article where VW will stop making Gas/diesel cars in 2027. how that'll work in the USofA, we'd probably get watered down cars like the Jetta, Atlas, and perhaps the American passat after that point.

Yup. The new ID cars look impressive. I am looking forward to seeing what they can make.

I always love your feedback on digital/touch screen shit in cars. I am in total agreeance.
I the gayges and controls in my shitty ass C5, TBH, even if the rest of the interior is still
