Unfortunately, the front rebuild kits appear to be for a C6 or something because the seals are too big. Griff's getting those back unassembled, but cleaned and painted with a fresh coat of G2 caliper paint. The rears are ready to bolt on.
Agreed. Though, griff's were in surprisingly good shape, they probably didn't need a rebuild as the boots weren't even torn like most C5's I've seen (mine were completely gone on a number of pistons). The bores were perfect and the pistons looked new. They looked to me like they were rebuilt or replaced at some point, most likely not original.Apex wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:16 pmDetroit wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 5:09 pm

It’s oddly satisfying to me to rebuild a nice set of calipers.

They do look really nice painted though, and now they're fresh and won't need to be thought about for quite some time.
It's a really simple thing to do and it doesn't cost much, so might as well for piece of mind. Not to mention, they look a ton better now.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 11:20 amDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 10:01 am

I'm going for all of the suspension stuff being fresh, so it'sto me. I was surprised they weren't ripped either after a bunch of track days and at least 50K miles with no maintenance from me other than fluid changes.
G2 is great stuff. I painted the entire caliper, and the top didn't quite level perfectly, but you'll never see the tops with the wheels installed. The faces are what counts, and I think they turned out great. I use a dremel on the CORVETTE lettering, and it REALLY pops on the black.
Yeah the Corvette lettering looks dope. I was planning to sand it off but you did the work for me, and probably did a better job than I would've as you are a masterDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 2:54 pmG2 is great stuff. I've scraped the paint off the letters with razors, sanded with sand paper, but a steady hand with the dremel produces the best results IMO. Gives the metal a nice machined look.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:25 pmYeah the Corvette lettering looks dope. If the market for C5s was stronger, I could get into the C5 restoration business...
Nah, I was just virtual tire kicking. I need to hold onto cash right now because who knows what the hell is coming.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:42 pmYou're right, seeingDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:38 pm

If the market for C5s was stronger, I could get into the C5 restoration business...'s go for only $9K makes that a losing proposition, sadly. Hell once I put tires on mine I'll be more than $2K into maintenance/reconditioning and it won't be worth any more than it was before, which is probably $10K.
The nice thing about it not being worth much is that it's easy to have fun and
with a cheap thing.
Speaking of, did you buy that Beemah yet?
If you buy the Beemah, I'll Venmo you $40. #crowdfundDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:49 pmNah, I was just virtual tire kicking. I need to hold onto cash right now because who knows what the hell is coming.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:42 pm

Rebuilding your calipers made me miss having a car project...but I think I like the project more than owning the car itself.
I mean, I doubt those cars actually handle all that well anyway?Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:09 pm
I should setup a #gofundme
Too rich for trumpbux but don't want to spend my own cash on an old BMW.
Biggest problem is I just don't know what I'd do with it. Detroit is absolutely the WORST place for car ownershit. Nowhere fun to drive it, it's not fast in a straight line, roads are garbage so the lowering springs (which look awesome) would be painful, not sure I'd trust it on road trips up north, it's a thing I want but in practice it just makes zero sense.
The only thing in the back of my mind is if I score this other job and leave my company, I'd have to surrender my beloved JT because I'll be tooto buy it and then won't have a vehicle.
Wife hates all cars. Loves "riding up high"...when we went to take the brake calipers to the PO today, she commented on how much she likes the JT.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:15 pmI mean, I doubt those cars actually handle all that well anyway?Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:09 pm

maybe they do. But it seems like it would be a cool thing to just cruise down Woodward in and take on date nights or whatever.

90s German stuff is probably my favorite. I’d love to have something like that as a weekend ride.
