 239 is close to the top of Zone 5 for me. Goodness I have a long way to go.

Good luck with the race tomorrow!

No CAAD13 today. The store evidently hasn’t received the bike yet even though it was supposed to be ready for pickup today. :notsure:

Sad! Soon though. I helped a buddy of mine fix up his old Schwin MTB today, he recently moved back here, hopefully he gets into riding.

I’ve got a big ride tomorrow, looking to do 200 km :excited:

You’ll get there. Getting road bike miles in will help with the pelogainz.
It’ll take time, but I think I will. I shouldn’t be too upset with my progress so far, my first FTP test was 174, now I’m at 201 after essentially 10 weeks (since I lost a whole month from being sick) of mostly unstructured training. 15% in that amount of time is :notbad:

Gonna see how doing a Z2/Z3 class the day before works for race day results; I’ve got an 85 mile gravel race tomorrow.

Picked a 30 minute Wilpers PZ Endurance class and focused on staying high Z2/low Z3 (~235-250W) for the majority of the class, targeting my average to be at the top of my Z2 output (239W). Surprising amount of sweat for being a fairly low intensity class, feeling really good now.

:nice: curious to hear if it helps/hurts. Good luck tomorrow dude!

squeezed in a 20 mike ride this morning, pretty tame. Big headwind on the way out, but it was nice...dont get too sweaty. Then it got to 90 degrees and I noped back with my 2 water bottles. Beautiful day, fantastic if short ride.

I am falling in love with this bike. It is exactly what I aimed to build but with a short 80mm +6deg stem its twitchy and really entertaining. The geometry is great for my build so far, super predictable over rough parts and I think this guy is gonna take me on a century at some point. I am gonna keep it pretty much as is for a while. It is unique but still really fast and comfy for me, and Ive adjusted to the feel of it. Not a weight weenie or doing any TT runs or anything. Just got to adjust some of the cables which have had a little stretch. 5/7 project. That I actually finished!

I had my first 'pro' guitar show last night so today I finally had some time available to work on the bikes. Maybe tomorrow I'll actually ride one.

I put those Hutchinson fusion tires on the wife's bike, the tubeless kit on closeout for $79 worked out great - 2x tires, valves, rim tape, and sealant all in one little box. I got her an 11-32 cassette too instead of the stock 11-25. Cleaning up the the internals of the front shifter and replacing the inner cable was enough to get the front shifting fairly well too, so her bike is in decent shape now. I should still replace the rest of the cables and bar tape but it feels pretty good now with nicer tires.

Next up was swapping my Domane square taper 2x crank for an aliexpress hollowtech 1x crank. I wanted 50T but only 48T was available so that's what I got. For now I left the front derailleur in place with no tension on the cable, but even the crank+BB drops like 300 grams off the bike and is a lot stiffer - no more ticking/creaking under power. I can't complain for $75 shipped including the BB. 1x8 road bike! :thisisfine:

Nice work Zack.

I played my first hockey game last night in 16 months. I might be getting into better cycling shape, but holy hell my legs are not in hockey shape. They’re totally jello today.

Pretty epic ride yesterday knocking out my first 'double metric'. It was also hot as hell topping out at over 90F, and I have to admit this challenged me mentally at times. That said, my friend Lucas and I, who have both lived in FL seemed to survive the heat by far the best. I think I just under ate, as I was feeling rough from miles 90-105 or so, then we made our final stop where I housed some Reeses, Cheetos, a Slim Jim, and a Starbucks double shot, as well as more water, and the last 20 felt great. I honestly could've pushed quite a bit harder there at the end but a few members of the group were kind of dying.

All in all, a great ride, huge accomplishment, and 5/7 group of people to suffer with. A hell of a way to spend the first hot day of 2021 as well :lolol:

Funny story, less than 10 miles in, we all blew through a red light (small suburban town of Mooresville, NC) with zero traffic around. There was a cop at a gas station by the intersection who saw and yelled at us. Fast forward a half mile, three of the crew did the same exact thing while Denis and I decided to stop. Sure enough, the three of them got pulled over and were ticketed ($240) for running a red light :lolol:

Pretty typical honestly... due to the proximity to the ocean, I don't recall ever seeing a temp over 90F for my entire 4-5 years living in Miami. Charlotte typically sees a day or two that peak around 100F and quite a few in the 90s (this week already). That said, FL summer suck and it FEELS way hotter with the wicked humidity and daily rain.

:iono: I loved FL weather over all but I also really enjoy it here March-November.

Thanks dude! I was thinking about the bike this morning after knocking this out yesterday, overall five months in I am really happy with this thing. I really was rather comfy for the entire time (I mean as comfy as one can be on a ride like this). It's not the lightest bike in the world and 3/4 people I was with have a lot more cash into their setups, but I was as fast as anyone.

:megusta:

I also continue to get loads of compliments on it, it's certainly unlike any other bikes you see in the world.

Y'all continue to seem inhuman to me. I took another Amazon return to the UPS store today and tested the new chinesium crankset. 150 bpm for 15 miles = 13 mph. At one point I hit 195 bpm trying to hold 20 mph on perfectly flat ground with relatively little wind... :ohwell:

At least the cranks feel good. The ticking/creaking every time I pedal hard is gone and the 48T front with 11-32 8-speed rear seems like the right combo for my weak ass, I'm pretty much in the middle of the cassette most of the time. Changing gear also actually makes a difference instead of needing to drop 3 gears at a time on a typical 11-speed close-ratio setup.

Damn, I just rode my superx for the first time in months and the 32mm tarz are noticeably better than the 25s for our brick roads around town... Now I feel like I should be shopping for some wider wheels and/or a frame with more clearance. :wasteful:

I thought you sold the SuperX. :derp: Just selling for :scrooge: reasons? What will the Domane fit? Probably at least 28s, ya?

I'm going to sell it but I can't get one of the pedals off so it has been sitting in the garage waiting for me to have time to :dealwithit: - today I officially gave up and rode it to the local shop for them to cut the pedal off so I can actually sell it before the prices drop.

It's expensive and has no mounts for anything and is basically made for CX/gravel racing, totally out of its element here - plus I'm not about to lock up a $4000 bike downtown.

My domane will fit a 28 and possibly a 32 but neither size fits well on my 17mm :ramz: - I might test fit one of the 32s for the hell of it since I already have them here but I don't expect it to work very well.

It’s not exactly cheap, but I think something like the 2021 CAADX would be perfect for you. Fits 40s, has rack and fender mounts, decently light, still capable of some :stig: fun. Basically exactly what you have and like but with the versatility you’re looking for.

That's the same geometry as the superx which is 99% the same as my domane. I'm just going to keep riding it and eventually try bigger tarz - maybe keep an eye out for deals on the local market.

If anything I'll probably end up hunting for or building something with hydraulic disc brakes and short reach levers for the wife. She doesn't have the grip strength to stop quickly with the mechanical brakes. Maybe she just needs better cables and pads :doe:

I wouldn't mind going to discs eventually too, but just to be able to fit wider aero :ramz: which isn't really relevant at my current pace.

I am also a cheapass but it seems to me like you're doing it fairly right, nothing :wrong: with something a bit older/less expensive if it's working well.
