Do they use lug bolts like other dumb German cars? If so, it's zero labor and maybe $40-50 on ebay to get 2 spacers and 10 bolts. Or if it's within 5mm you can probably do spacers only. :iono:

Way less work than an exhaust.

Yep, I don’t even think longer lug bolts would be needed. I will see what size spacer is needed... it would be interesting to see how it drives with :225: on the back. Likely actually slower but quite possibly more enjoyable for very few dollhairs, I’m never going to track or autox it so ultimately slower while more fun is actually better.

If you have a resonator then straight pipe it and your exhaust will sound better/louder.

This thing still looks brand new underneath. Overall... I’m a little bit let down, it’s still pretty darn quiet. It does sound good and is certainly more sporty but I wish it were a bit more. Oh well, it’s nice for DD, May get slightly louder with break in.

These new jack stands are dope :doe:
Pipes look nice but this isn’t surprising ... most got “noise” by going catless downpipe... catback was usually the “quietest” of the “loud” options

If I decide to keep :plac: at bay, I may do a catted down pipe and tune but I think catless is :fullretard:

I think I need a little time with it day to day to see how I like it. Reality is it’s probably ideal, I’m just a :baby: immature :millennial: wanting to make more noises.

Funny enough this actually removed that stock resonator, it’s just cat then straight pipes back to a smaller muffler. I was surprised by how quiet it is. Part of it is also just that the car is so much better insulated than anything else I’ve owned.

My only guess is that the insulation packing in the muffler settles and leaves more passages around the baffles.

Seems plausible.

So the good news is I do feel like this is starting to sound slightly louder/better while driving. It sounds like total :poop: on cold start, like a broken diesel or something, but the exhaust is nice on road, like stock on the highway with a nice sporty rumble while driving.

The bad news is, there’s a buzz in the interior now... at first I thought it was the actual exhaust but now I don’t think so. It sounds like it’s coming from the tunnel in the backseat floor board. It’s only when accelerating, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears. It almost sounds like a heat shield vibrating against something. I got under the car, everything is tight, no running and I can’t seem to locate it.

I’ll keep trying to localize but the thing is a rev won’t recreate, only happens when accelerating, making it hard to pin down with the car in the air.

Possibly something in the rear HVAC system?

It is right there. It happened upon exhaust installation but sounds more like an interior rattle that the exhaust resonance causes... hadn’t thought of this. HVAC has been off, not sure if that would matter.

Could be a flap/door or vent. 4th gear in my brub causes random interior vibrations.

It definitely sounds like it's coming from that general area, thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

And yeah the :poorvette: crashes over everything so much I'm just :aintcare: about all of it... but if this exhaust causes annoying interior noises I can't locate I'll probably just go back to stock and sell it.

Then probably sell the car :plac:

Every car I've put an aftermarket exhaust on ends up with some interior rattle. I think it just comes down to the :science: of more noise making things buzz. Just the name of the game, and why I'm pretty much over modding cars. Mods just create too many ancillary issues, and unless you :aintcare: about them, it's not worth it.

My :poorvette: has zero interior rattles at 16+ years old and 109k miles... I mean it crashes like hell over bumps but nothing from cold, exhaust, etc.

This is fairly bad though... to the point that I don't think it's really worth it. Hopefully I could sell the exhaust for $600-700 if it comes to that, paid about $900 with homie hook up.

I'm thinking my top :plac: contenders would be a Pooper S/JCW or an MS3. I'm going to see how the job things pan out and try to fix the rattle buzz before doing anything drastic :doe:

It's odd because this exhaust is not very loud at all, like the buzz caused by it is louder than the actual note, even windows down.

I was remarking this morning on my way in about how few buzzes and rattles my :poorvette: has. The only one that's surfaced recently is a buzz in the dash at low RPM under moderate load. I think the headers might be touching the body somewhere and need to investigate that. The things have rubbermaid interiors, but can be surprisingly well screwed together.

I don't think I've ever had a car where the buzz was so bad I couldn't take it. That's :impressive:

I mean if it was in my Corvette I think I'd be :aintcare: about it... but it's a near brand new BMW that I'm making a monthly payment on.

If I'm gonna roll with buzzes I'd rather have that red $9500 R56 S.
