The long-delayed repair/upgrade begins
What the fuck are we doing here?
Front lip, underbody plastics, and part of the bumper got wrecked by a raccoon about a year and a half ago. It’s been zip tied together since, and the NC2 lip was already out of production when it broke, so I decided on doing an NC3 front end conversion.
Finally got around to getting the bumper to start. They’ve been hard to find and apparently this was the only one in the country when I ordered it Thursday, but it got here Friday morning so no idea if that was true.

Yep! Just the bumper is hard to find, and the Club lip is dumb expensive ($450) so I’m gonna do the $100 GT winglet lip. Like that look better anyways.

Nah, financially not in the cards for a bit, moving in and furnishing the new place to be nice and cozy is proving more expensive than I planned for. Plus I don’t really need it.
Still have my heart set on an SQ5 though.
Also starting to dislike this job so I’m prepping in case

hits the fan. Would like to build up a 6 month comfy emergency fund and then start looking elsewhere. I’ve been spending almost all my waking hours working lately and I hate it. Fintech pays well but it’s soul sucking. Kinda want to pivot to something more exciting in tech. Gonna hold off on the car until I’ve got a firm grasp on where my financial situation is gonna be a year+ from now.
In other news, the

is <500 miles away from hitting 100,000 miles. Ordered a blackstone labs oil analysis kit to see how things are holding up on the next oil change as soon as it hits 100k. Hopefully all is good, but if not I’m gonna get to sourcing a 2.5 ASAP. This may also force the SQ5 plans to happen ahead haha.

Hate to burst your bubble but I’m sure the motor is doing well

I look forward to the Blackstone results, always a fun thing to check out.
Your plans sound smart to me. Word to the wise, all jobs suck but definitely some more than others.

Yeah it’s probably fine. I just tend to overthink and get paranoid a lot. You should’ve seen me when I had the Jetta haha
And with work, it’s not so much the job itself I guess. I just really don’t like working with Oracle database or databases in general, I just would rather be doing something more exciting with newer tech, making something cool rather than building an internal app that just aggregates business forecast data so the finance bros can figure out how much profit the bank is making next year.
I’d probably be working just as hard if not harder at a startup or more traditional tech company but I feel like it would at least be something exciting

I feel you on that. I'm in sales, and I could definitely make more money if I were to pivot to like financial or medical stuff. At the end of the day, I really need to sell products I'm interested in for projects I'm interested in, or I will totally want to blow my brains out.

Outstanding timing on the Miata's part today:
Was heading over to a friend's for the start of our new dungeons and dragons campaign, and the clutch pedal made a nice pop sound.
Since then the bite point is right at the floor, and I can't get into first or reverse unless the car is moving slightly to let the synchros work.
From a quick glance, the pedal assembly is flexing a bit more than usual and according to forums it's a known thing for those to become weak on NCs, especially in hotter and more humid climates it seems. Time to order a new clutch pedal assembly I guess, and maybe order the Nielex reinforcement kit and find someone to weld that onto the assembly.
Might as well do the clutch hydraulics too, the sideways flex of the assembly has been known to wear down the master cylinder quicker.

Wait … so the clutch/master broke away from the firewall and needs to be rewelded ? Or wtf

No but that would be a serious

if so.
The metal support of the pedal assembly is weak/thin and only really held onto the part of it that bolts to the firewall by a couple spot welds, and I think those let go. That allowed the pedal to move left and right a bit in addition to the usual forward and back, which broke the master cylinder from side load.
Yesterday morning I was gonna limp it back to Tampa but I had to leave it at my parents' place. The car wouldn't go in or out of gear unless the engine was off. Clutch would not disengage with the pedal all the way down, and a quick glance at the cylinder looked like it was slowly leaking fluid. Borrowed the parents' MDX for the week. I ordered the pedal assembly along with new master/slave cylinders and a stainless line on Saturday night, hopefully it's here by the weekend. Also seriously working out the finances for an SQ5 now and I think I can actually afford to do it sooner for a 2020. They're around $30k now and I've got some sitting in savings for a decent down payment. Might be time to pull the trigger as a bday present to myself haha

currently

on when the clutch pedal assembly I ordered from Tasca Parts is coming in.
Not having access to a fun car is getting to my head already. Can't go

mode driving after a stressful day of work.
I've started actively looking for SQ5s already and I'm working on a

currently. It's priced to sell in a desirable spec and I'm being not so nice to the

with many questions and some bargaining so we'll see if it actually happens lol.

These are super cheap and common here.
I thought you would like this Used 2016 Porsche Macan S for $26788 on Autotrader

Hmmm not bad. The other thing is I want a color that’s not monochrome, and things like CarPlay.
Maybe I’m just being picky but this is also a bit of a treat yo self kind of thing for me

So are you getting that eye piercing blue one? They had a lot of ex loaners here that were pretty decent deals. They only came balls to the walls fully loaded... so it was a hefty discount over sticker.

Indeed. Originally was looking for a 2018-2020 in the very rare Azores Green Metallic:
Or at the very least Matador Red, but the 2021+ facelift having wireless CarPlay, adaptive cruise as standard, and a touchscreen instead of dial only won me over and they depreciated enough to be just barely in budget. They dropped the red and the old Navarra Blue for 2021+, and instead have Ultra Blue and a kinda bland District Green.
I desperately wish they offered more colors. They offered Audi Exclusive for a while, and a friend of mine sent me a neat purple one a while back but it was listed for $50k

Clutch master and slave cylinders and the stainless line arrived from Good-win Racing today. Got a shipping update on the pedal assembly that it should arrive Saturday.
Not sure if I really want to tackle doing the whole job Sunday morning since it’s my birthday but I’ll have help handy. Younger brother and I haven’t wrenched together in a while since we live so far apart now so that might be nice.

Updated thread topic for the SQ5 purchase. Will add pics when I take some.
In the meantime, I’m gonna start work on getting the Miata driving again after work tomorrow if it doesn’t rain.
