If you want :aintcare: motoring, I'd think it hard to do better than that given the requirements here.
Kinda seppuku, no?
Like a new Camry hybrid is about that much for an SE and it’s way cooler and gets double the mpg / won’t depreciate much.

Depends on a lot of things, but I would definitely consider going to an EV and just pocketing the mileage money.
Used EV would be cool but it’s off the table for right now. Maybe in a few years. I need a bit more time in the house without ripping stuff apart.

:notwrong:, but a Camry is 0% less Suppuku to me and I thought you wanted a hatch. I guess if doggo has to be rehomed that changes the :math: a bit.

The basic bitch LE can be had for $30k. The SE I'd guess is the most common and it's $35k.

That’s just insane to me. I would just roll in a civic sport at 25k and call it day

All Camrys now are hybrid. So 50 mpg and a lot more power than the depressing 2.0 NA in the civic sport.

Yeah not sure on that front with the dog. I dunno I suppose a NA Outback new could work. In that realm I’d maybe be more inclined to go with a used XT Onyx. They’re mid 20s.

None of the dealers around me are advertising any outback’s sub 30k. I guess haggling might get one there.

Who gives a shit. 35k for a Camry is …. 35k for a Camry. If you need reliable basic transport civic is where it’s at or maybe Cross tranny. They are both well under 30. You said money is tight so what’s the priority?. What sort of fun can be had in a hybrid Camry ?! If priority is fun get a gr86 cheaper than a Camry as well. If you need the space … 2.5 Outback. Choices are all here.

I think that vulva made no sense… chinese owned “Swedish” brand that may go under any minute with expensive parts and service. Sounds like an absolute nightmare

Right prices are high on everything. Even used accords are expensive. Used Camry hybrids dont even look into it. A used bmw 330i x drive is the same price as a used Camry hybrid. Which is why I started down the 330i route because if I’m spending that much it might as well be somewhat decent.

Civic maybe. But see the price problem. Plus I did not like my mom’s insight which is a hybrid civic. Sit too low, rides too rough, rattly and buzzy and plastic steering wheel. Seppuku.

A basic outback is a maybe. It’s no good at dog hauling though because the load floor is way too high, and that touch screen. But from what I hear they seem at least comfy.

The dog requirement is gone just fyi. A black cloth interior is probably the worst thing I could get. Dog hair is white and it’s hard to get out of cloth seats. The gray leather has been excellent. I’d actually put a light interior as a priority over a more powerful engine or something.

I dunno. I have no time for this shit. I can’t even go drive cars because my life is absolute chaos. Our house is being torn apart for the next few days while our AC is replaced. So we are living at Lisa’s parents. Got a phone call from the installers that they shattered the washing machine while installing stuff. So emergency ordered a washer today. They’ll pay for it but now I have to coordinate that shit for Monday. More shit. Less time.

Or this nice BMW that’s the same price after the Honda dealer adds on popular package 2, wheel locks, and cargo organizer.

It’s 5 years newer, comes with a warranty and gives you the peace of mind that you don’t have to deal with anything on it for 3 years. Given your situation time is money

I mean that’s kind of what I think. The outback suggestion isn’t too bad though. At least the rear seat area is a lot larger in that.

It seems like you’re also making your commuter into a family car which severely compromises both things. What makes a good fam car makes a shitty commuter and Vice Versa.

Commuter I’d just go cheap and comfortable and fuel efficient.

For a fam car you’d probably look at space, comfort and safety. It’ll also be 30-50% more money …

For around the same dough I’d def go BMW. New Civics are big though, I’d vote for a warrantied Civic over a five year old Accord.

Outback onyx XT:
Wow this transmission and motor pairing sucks. Laggy motor combined with a laggy transmission results in you fighting the motor every time it takes off. No thank you. The touch screen seemed mostly ok. Start stop felt like someone rear ended the car. It was quick and soft riding but everything else about the drive was awful. Very boaty and floaty with a steering wheel seemingly not connected to anything. Not for me. CRV drives a lot sharper with better suspension, brakes, and handling.

Mazda CX5:
I maintain that this thing is trying way too hard to be sporty. Instead it’s just got bad damper tuning and rides way too rough for what it is. It’s also super tiny in the rear seat. The click wheel interface can suck it too. There’s no way this is better than a touch screen. Turn in was sharp and the motor feels like “enough” but that’s all the good I can say. A CRV slays this in everything.

Accord hybrid (last gen):
Very nice. Drove great. Super smooth and a lot faster than our CRV. Enormous back seat means baby girl can sit behind me. Enormous trunk. Only bad things are the radio doesn’t sound great and the steering wheel is off center. I liked it a lot though.

Just wait 60-90 days and the accord will be 20-40% more affordable. It seems like a sensible choice

I actually love the atlas but I’d do the 3 row not the cross sport one. And go for the 2.0t motor. It’s too big and no way would I put up with 15 mpg but they’re neat for a mainstream cheap vehicle.

Eh I’ll need to buy one next week. I’d like to find a 10th gen (prior gen) one. Either hybrid or 2.0t not sure. I only drove the hybrid but it was quite nice. The 2.0t is a bit of a beast. I could probably convince Lisa on it. The hybrid would bet about 35-45 mpg, the 2.0t around 20-25. My commute and most driving is back roads not highway.
