Here's your update. Yes the shocks and tires are on. It drives like a German Buick should. BUT
One of the lowbeams goes out. This car comes with Halogens....even thought they look identical to the Bi Xenon.
I order a set of upgrade halogen bulbs from Hella.....20 bucks. http://www.myhellalights.com/index.php/ ... e-2-bulbs/
You can open the headlight unit from the rear to install the new bulb on both sides....But on the driver side you have to move the radiator overflow tank. I manage to snap off the fastener securing the overflow tank. Then I start to work on the passenger side. HOLY. Fk. I simply could not get it done. I bruised the fk out of my right forearm, and just could not skin the cat, could not get the bulb to re-seat. In the process, because of the age and brittleness of the wires inside the unit, they crack....badly, exposing raw wire everywhere. I take it to my indy guy....he says, yeah, the bumper cover has to come off to replace the headlight units, I don't jack with bodywork, etc. etc.
So. This weekend the front bumper cover comes off. I ordered TWO entirely new factory Hella headlight units @$292 each (just to be safe, hopefully I only have to use one) and I'm going to deal with this fucking probem with some goddam access. !@#$!~@#%!%!%$@!mother!!%$!%!%!%!%fkr. This is why you buy a Hyundai, kids.
Heat shrink . $1 at Harbor Freight and it will hold up. If you want to get fancy, get a $7 soldering iron.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 2:44 pmStep one is pulling the light to see what I can do. How does that rate on your 1/2 assed scale?CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 2:40 pm
Have you thought about taking off the bumper to see if you can fix the light?
Not sure if you have addressed this yet and it's not clear to me.

Ok boys and girls per the above posts one of the low beams went out on the MB. So I bought a couple of upgraded Hella replacement Halogens and thought "how hard can it be" It was super difficult and ultimately I had to pull at least one headlight unit to fix it. I ordered two completely new Hella Units from Autohaus AZ just in case, which arrived with bubble wrap on the OUTSIDE, bruh, truly like they were shipping the Ark of the Covenant. I was impressed. This is a "throwaway" car according to Max so any expense spared is good expense. Would he ship back one light, two lights or both lights? Here is my story.
I put it on the lift and dropped the bumper cover. 16 fasteners and bolts and two clamps that secure the bumper to the fender later, I had access.
There were two problems after I pulled the passenger headlight unit. The first was that the connector was not securely "clicking" into place becase the dog ears on the pictured connector needed bent to provide more resistance.
The second was that I damaged the insulation on the wires when reaching my hand in there blindly hoping for the best.
I had to cut the heat shrink then put another one over the cut like a sandwich. It worked ok. It melted but when you cut heat shrink it doesn't tighten together. Solid enough that I felt the wires were protected.

I replaced both low beams and high beams with Hella 2.0 H7s. I think I will put new driving lights and turn signals in these bitches too while I have them out. Tested out the high/lows, we are fully operational. I just have to put humpty dumpty back together. I'm shipping both new units back, $600 saved on those, so it is sort of worth it. I will probably change the oil while I have the lower pan removed and on the lift, even thought that only puts it at 5K miles..... Max

Suspension refresh seems an appropriate "repair".

Isolate the shocks for me please. Depends on the cost of the French tires of course.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 2:19 pm
Bilstein B4s, Michelin A/S 3+s plus install and roadhazard was $1350. Did you want me to put Monroes and Kumhos on it because throwaway?

Shocks were $400 pieced together in single orders because of some Bilstein plant move.
Tires were $900 installed and with road hazard.
$300 shock install.
$1700. I'd do this on ANY car I bought. I can drive this throwaway another 100,000 miles easy with no payments. The man will be taking your M3 the minute you miss a payment.

I think it's to get/keep a cool older car in shape like that. Sure it's not the absolute cheapest way to go but it's pretty cheap for what you get. Having a garage and some time to wrench really makes a lot of interesting cars possible to own that would otherwise be

The Mercedes plus maintenance cost around 18 months of bmw payments why does everyone feel compelled to make it a comparison to my vehicle ?Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 11:38 pmRefresh:

That said the shocks are actually somewhat reasonably priced. Although I would have likely tried to get something for less than $230 a tire installed.

Unfortunately the crown Vic has outlived it’s useful life and will likely not see 2020. Just too many things set against it at this point. This desert man bro bitches about headlight bulbs... good luck working on a car that literally went to the moon and back. That type of poverty life is semi depressing to engage in, especially considering it isn’t my primary vehicle that I depend on to make ends meettroyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 11:43 pmGotta spend money to make money.Desertbreh wrote:

My experience with non-Michelin tires has been enough to make me give no fucks on top end Michelin for anything I plan on keeping for a while. Quiet after 20K miles with proper rotation goes a long way with me. The goodyears on the Bimmer are wubba wubbing after 19K. Because they have a shit treadwear rating. The re050 iirc on my 335 were nothing to rave about. Plenty of decent $110-140 tire options with a 500-700 rating for the merc out there good for 60-80k miles.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 11:59 pmMy experience with non-Michelin tires has been enough to make me give no fucks on top end Michelin for anything I plan on keeping for a while. Yep this is just one of those things I'm happy to wax on nfg. Also our local tire shop is pretty incredibru and I will gladly spend an extra 50ish to support local biz.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 12:04 amBecause they have a shit treadwear rating. Seems like a worthwhile spend to me for a car that's "worth it" to keep nice.
