:plac: finds v2.0: Moar gold on the crangslist
Yeah I think something like this is sort of foolish to save for the next guy. If maintained well, it'll still be worth about the same with another 50K miles on the clock, may as well enjoy it. If you were to put 5k/year on it versus 1k/year on it, you probably lose in the hundreds each year in value. Not driving stuff is dumb in 99% of cases.

First I said I would have bid on this if it had lower miles...CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 3:41 pm https://carsandbids.com/auctions/98MNAk ... -amg-sedan
This is fucking beautiful
But that thing doesn't seem to be in good shape
Chips and scratches on the exterior
Peeling paint on windshield trim and rear bumper
Curb rash on wheels; 2019 date code on front driver's side tire
Some wear on seats and on interior touch points
Inoperable panoramic sunroof
Sagging headliner
Mine had none of the above...
I was also surprised to see "rust" on a florida car.... but it seems like it was actually in Jersey... Diabolical to drive a 500hp sedan in the winters there.

I understand it's not the below ... but on a "collector" grade vehicle it's detracting. It is a bit too "used" for my taste... the seats also look like the leather is starting to flake, given the fucked up bumper and headliner that thing probably lived outside with the peasants and thus doesn't deserve a price premium.

So my buddy traded in his Raptor 2 weeks ago at this stealer... they first listed it at 84k... but now went
with 100k
https://www.lexusfremont.com/used-Fremo ... GXRFA26890
He bought it a year ago for 82k (sticker) ...
Also it seems like Civic type Rs are back to transacting above sticker here... with most dealers asking 15-20k over.
I should have gotten one essentially for $1800 over (accessory bs) and called it a day.

But that's basically not even rust. That's how much surface rust cars get sitting on the lot up there.

You are correct that the W211 E55 is a beautiful thing, a vehicle that is still impressively fast today and has a great fking engine.......this is when AMG just made a bad ass hotrod 170 mph all day long capable car that carried wine, women and shotguns. The true descendant of the 450SEL 6.9. For all the reasons Max said, I would only get this one on the SUPER cheap. Also, those Pano roofs are to be avoided. They have these plastic gears and INEVITABLY DIE......and then it is a full rebuild. Just say no to this one.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 3:41 pm https://carsandbids.com/auctions/98MNAk ... -amg-sedan

The Merc looks pretty clean to me considering it’s 20 years old. It’s not a Ferrari, I’d expect it to be run hard and put away wet at this point.

Yeah it was $146K inflation adjusted for the first lesee... then $46K for the second guy, then in the teens for the other broccoli heads. All I'm saying is, good luck expecting perfection on a 20 year old car that isn't particularly valuable. It looks pretty good, there will be imperfections unless you go to the equivalent of Enthusiast Auto.
That rust is presumably pictured for being the worst part on the car, it's probably $12 of shit you could replace with a regular old socket set in 15 minutes.
It does look great. I can't get down with the correct tranny
