Bossbro’s new boss at the Port reached out to him yesterday to ask about me. Sounds like I should be getting an interview next week. Second round interviews will be scheduled for April 3, and their tentative selection date is April 11.
My agency is offering early separation buyouts now through April 17. You have the option of taking that and being paid out whatever your severance package, up to a cap of $25k, would be ahead of this next round of RIF/layoffs.
Timing could work well for me if I do get the job. I could take the payout and walk away with a little chunk of money rather than just put in my two weeks notice and leave. My severance/payout won’t be much. 3 or 4 weeks worth of pay, but that’s more than nothing. Will help make up some of the gap in what I’d lose this year taking what will probably be a $10k pay cut.

Best of luck man. Hoping you land on your feet through this DOGE debacle.

Homie hookup is the best way to land a job. If you can pocket some cash in the process then go for it!SAWCE wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:13 am Bossbro’s new boss at the Port reached out to him yesterday to ask about me. Just a reminder... of how much better you have it than the average private employee. As dark as it seems, if you were part of a private company and say your job was in jerperdy... you could have been out of work back in December... 2 weeks severeance maybe, no real notification just a pat on the back and a F U on your way out. Meanwhile here we are in Late march and you're still going strong with a possibility of another job.

Things aren't as dark as they seem. You'll pull through.

For sure. I appreciate the perspective. My fed buddies and I were chatting about that yesterday actually. As much as we bitch to each other and other places where we’re free to vent like here, things could definitely be worse.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 12:31 pmJust a reminder... of how much better you have it than the average private employee. We mostly all have wives/kids at home and use these outlets to blow off the steam and not bring as much home with us.

I actually sat down to start that this weekend, but realized that all of the emails with the timeline I wanted to outline are on my work laptop, which I’m no longer authorized to bring home with me

It is nice to see when private sector companies are generous with their layoffs. My Microsoft buddy was laid off in Jan, however he receives full pay until the end of May, and his benefits will continue through the end of Sept. He’s definitely an outlier with that set up though.

I imagine its less of a 'property' issue and more of a 'lots of these people are openly talking about CYA and we want to preserve the record.'

It's cool. It would be interesting, but don't bother if it's too much hassle. You've got plenty on your plate already.

Same. There have been a few “leaks” at different agencies, so I think they’re just hoping to contain some of that and be able to better monitor everything done on our workstations.golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:37 pmheh, thats rich.

Not a leak, as DOGE provided this list, but the USDA team in the building I’m in now has their lease on this list. The NOAA Fisheries team I’m sitting with doesn’t have their lease listed on here, but seeing this building on the list at all is more writing on the wall for me to get out sooner than later.

I know this borders on political discussion and can easily segue that direction.. so Dan, say the word and I can move this to a different thread.

I found myself getting to that point after landing in a hospital with a mystery issue do to work stress. My wife ended up In the hospital 2x because of her work stress... at some point you gotta adopt that mindset otherwise it eats you alive.
My main biz partner is ex Nvidia and he keeps in touch with his millionaire and billionaire friends... One just died at 48... others had major surgeries to remove organs etc with mystery illnesses all over the place. IT's crazy how much this lifestyle can kill your health despite an "office" environment.

That was my initial approach. And despite what it may seem from my musings here, it generally still is. The only difference is that I’m actively looking to leave so that I can fullymax225 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 2:11 pmCurious do you ever just goSAWCE wrote: ↑Wed Mar 19, 2025 1:57 pm Not a leak, as DOGE provided this list, but the USDA team in the building I’m in now has their lease on this list. If I was single, or if we didn’t have the kid, I’d be more

DOGE is in mah house. (maybe?)
just got word that part of one of our smaller active contracts are being put on hold. (NB: one of our main clients is the operator of a gov. owned manufacturing facility)
Now this could be DOGE, or it could be the RFI's we sent questioning significant parts of the design basis of the scope and them going 'oh shit, we need to fix this'

Finally heading home.
Got quite a promotion at work, I'm now over several clients for the department. Been playing catch up getting everything lined up and organized.
Stressful, but a massive positive move in my career.
