A lot of people standing around waiting for them to come back online, but I said fuck it and just started walking up the stairs with the flashlight on my phone. I’m on floor 11, but there are two dead floors after the main floor, so 13 flights of stairs. Power came on around floor 6, but every floor is access controlled and my org only has access to our floor, so onward I trekked. :sweaty:
The musk man is saving power now :notbad:

I generally am a stairs guy when at hotels and stuff, but if it’s more than like 6-7 flights, you can start to break a sweat a little.

I should stairs more often than I do. But I hit several flight a day in our house with the three levels. Today definitely got my heart rate up though as I haven’t done a continuous 13 flights in years and years since way back when I used to do the stairmaster for my cardio.

When I used to do group travel before vid in NY, I usually stay at residence inn near times square off of 6th ave, their elevators always take forever, especially in busy seasons. I always end up taking the fire exit roughly 10+ flights down to right outside, that was my morning excersice warm up. My last hotel elevators take longer so when i need to go to other floors and notice a whole bunch of people waiting, I take the emergency stairs that are adjacent to it, much easier.

They were one of my first introductions to alt rock by a guy/group of brothers who really took me in under their wings and looked out for me a lot when I was an especially awkward teen. So there’s a big nostalgia hit associated with them for me. Sadly he and I kind of drifted apart over the years, but the youngest of the three brothers is still a close friend of mine and actually moved up here shortly after I did. Spent some time with him this past weekend which was nice.

Same. I listened to them a ton in high school and college. For a moody teenager 311 was good way to lighten things up.

I still need to create a thread about the general timeline of what’s happened as a federal employee over the last month and a half-ish; I’ll do that as objectively as possible and just list dates/events.

But… a couple of weeks ago as I was browsing jobs I sent a contracts manager position with the Port of Portland to my bossbro for him to check out. Shortly after he interviewed he sent me a listing for a contract specialist position over there. It was in the same branch as the job he applied for, so he had figured that meant they promoted from within and he didn’t get the job. Turns out he did get an offer and formally accepted it today. My application was sent up today to the hiring manager, his soon to be boss :excited: Will be very nice to leave the headache that is the current federal employment landscape before the layoffs (over 1,000 from my organization will be cut on March 31st), and to work under my buddy again who is a great boss and leader if I do get that job.

Yep, politics aside, I imagine most fed organizations will have a lot of turmoil and drama over the next year. I'm still definitely interested to hear your story. I've chatted with a few other friends in different orgs and it's pretty interesting. Hopefully this works out if it seems like a solid gig!

I worry it’ll be a lot longer than just the next year. I think the American people will be without a lot of services that the government has provided.

:well:

Also, good luck with the potential job switch. That sounds fantastic if it happens. What will the commute be like, or would you be able to WFH?

Haha it’s coming, I promise. Energy and motivation are running low these days and free time outside of work, family, and the gym is being spent applying to jobs.

The commute wouldn’t be bad.. I’d be working out of the airport ~15 miles from my house and ~25 minute drive if I’m able to keep my current 6AM start time. That would come with a couple of cool perks, like $20/month parking (down from my current $130 :disgust: ) that I could use for personal use too, so any trips we go on would have an immediate cost savings of not needing Ubers to/from the airport or paying for parking if we drive ourselves :notbad:

And totally understand about low motivation and prioritizing your time. :like:

Forgot to mention it’d be a hybrid work setup where people are WFH Monday and Friday with Tu-Th in the office. Decent.

I don’t usually push this stuff too hard on here, but they’re running a decent promo for us to get more pre-workout sales this month with higher commissions and some other perks.

So, if any of the homies use pre-workout, and want to try a new one. Check out Animal’s Primal. It’s tasty. I’m
Using the newer Dragon Berry flavor right now, just finished a tub of Candy Crushed too. Both solid. Candy crushed reminds me a bit of the sour punch straws flavor. If people like peach flavor, I have some of that I can open and taste test to give you an opinion.

If you do buy some, or anything else from them, pro-tip is to add it to your cart as a subscription, then when you check out, then throw my code “Bomber” in the coupon field. Subscription takes 10% off, then you’ll get another 20% off with my code. Brings the price of a 25 serving tub down to $33.06 or something IIRC. After your order ships, just log in and cancel your subscription with zero penalties. Rinse and repeat the next time you need to order.

Loaded up with 300mg of caffeine, which is more than I need myself, so I take half to three-quarters of a serving at a time, which bumps you out to 33-50 servings per tub :notbad:

Thanks dude. I hope so. Even though he hasn’t started with them, and won’t before I likely interview, I imagine they’d reach out to him to see what he has to say about me.

If not, I have a lot of other apps in. The one I’m most excited about the potential for is as a business instructor at our local community college. Very close to home, and teaching at that level is why I got my MBA to begin with back in the day, so would be cool to use this change up to make that pivot. Outside of that I’ve mostly focused on state/local (city and county) government positions as I generally enjoy working in the public sector and think that it’d be nice to be able to make a difference in my communities.
