I spent 6 weeks living there about a decade ago for work doing a lengthy training program, and I had an absolute blast. It's easy to get around without a car, the neighborhoods are vibrant and alive, and in general the place seems to run really well. I've been back for multiple work trips with Salesforce since then and my opinion hasn't changed. It's a wonderful place. It's not perfect, some parts of town are awful and it's definitely expensive, but if you like cities, Chicago is a good one IMO.wap wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 3:09 pm LOL at Chicago/Illinois ignorance.
The state’s overall violent crime rate is 287 per 100,000, which is 25 percent lower than the U.S. rate of 381 per 100,000.
Illinois ranks 30th among the states for its overall crime rate, though notably, Illinois has the seventh-highest rate of robbery among all states.
The overall total property crime rate per 100,000 people in Illinois is 1,683, which is about 14 percent lower than the overall U.S. rate of 1,954 per 100,000, which puts the state in 32nd among all 50 states.
Not to mention that killer corn thatreferenced above.

And what you said above is pretty true for probably 70-85% of the city, with just a few rough places you don't want to spend time in. It's really a great, beautiful, world-class city with fantastic architecture and neighborhood vibes.

Dang. Private sector bro got laid off today. Their project was sold off, whole team of 60+ let go. They’ll be kept on through the end of the pay period next week then get 90 days severance pay.

Also most of the rough places are the places visitors dont have no business to be in other than having a family member who lives there. Southeast dc is an example of all. Theres not even a supermarket there and nothing remotely interesting. Finding a white person there is like finding a dodge ram in Europewap wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 4:30 pmNah. Can't be. I spent most of my time in Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square. Plenty of time in Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville too.
One weekend my wife and I did a bike tour of Hyde Park, which is gorgeous BTW. Knowing nothing about Chicago, we took the red line south knowing it was the main north/south line. What we did not realize is that it's the Metra that stays closest to the lake. As we got farther south we realized we done fucked up, but we got off at the Garfield Blvd stop and walked east from there through Washington Park to get there. It was 100% fine. Nobody paid us any mind.

Ah, I hit some bars in River North back in my early 20's.

Chicago is great. Typical Brad stuff, talking about how terrible a city he's never been to is, because there are libtards there.
I have been many times, not dead. There are some kind of scary parts outside the city on the south side

Also gun obsessed people complaining about murder

Government workers should be paid market value for the skills and services they provide.
That way they stay competitive in attracting talent with the private markets.
If the salaries are egregious, review and correct. Seems pretty reasonable.
I do enjoy watching Elon and Trump fight over the spot light.
Most of the time they're talking and it feels like I'm Not Sure from Idiocracy watching his fellow prisoners test.
