Last time I was in Rochester getting the Silver BEATR inspected there was a manual swapped S6 wagon of this gen in for inspection too. I'd love this even with the auto though it probably cruises so fucking nicely.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 3:06 pm So y'all like these BAT rockstar cars......I look for things a little under the radar. Yeah the auto probably puts the V8 at way lower revs on the highway. Valerie had a 4.2 manual wagon and that thing had pretty high RPMs at 75 plus.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 6:05 pmLast time I was in Rochester getting the Silver BEATR inspected there was a manual swapped S6 wagon of this gen in for inspection too. If you don't carry a hammer to bang on the fuel tank, have you really owned an early 00's GM truck?max225 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 1:17 pmI think while they are "reliable" they are also old... so they tend to pop those 4 speed transmissions and various other components that could leave you stranded on said road trip. That part makes this proposition a bit difficult to swallow unless you do a lot of preventative maintenance. Which no one ever did on these.
That was an awesome car. Do want.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 6:09 pmYeah the auto probably puts the V8 at way lower revs on the highway. Valerie had a 4.2 manual wagon and that thing had pretty high RPMs at 75 plus.

So this guy put in the integra module, ppfed the car and did a couple of oil changes.
He is literally 5 miles away from me.
Tempting but sadly I have no use for the car at all

I know I'm a broken record at this point but M3. Or if you're really convinced you can do 2 doors with the M2.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:53 pm https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sal ... tmobileapp

Put the suspension in comfort, engine in efficient, and turn m sound off, it feels like a regular 3 series. Great for long highway drives.

I guess I’m getting older but this doesn’t appeal to me at all anymore. I had a hard time with the civic at $32k nevermind nearing $50k. I wouldn’t want a FWD civic at that price. And then you still have to deal with awful Honda speakers and infotainment on a regular basis.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:53 pm https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sal ... tmobileapp

It's a non depreciating toy car that has decent power and one of the worlds best manuals. The type R has 12 blows speakers as opposed to 6 on the standard shitvic.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 10:24 amI guess I’m getting older but this doesn’t appeal to me at all anymore. But yes the metapoint is .... it's a hopped up, widebody Civic at the end of the day.

The local has a m2 for 68k and my spec M3 is 81k and I'd have to special order as most are bad colors, x drive comps for 105-110k.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 10:02 amI know I'm a broken record at this point but M3. Thats nearly double post tax for the poverty spec M3... and quite a bit for the M2... which technically is less usable.

50k fwd civic? Im out. These are supposed to be budget cars, tuned up versions of a 25k car for a few car more, not a 2x premium.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:53 pm https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sal ... tmobileapp

I am actually surprised by this train of thought to be honest.
Lets just NOT diminish the civic fully and agree that it has.
+50% power over a high po civic and +100% over a base
Wide body
Unique interior
huge brakes
unique suspension
Built in JAPAN

no because BMW is a premium brand. The M3 is not just a hopped up three; its got tons of bespoke parts and a racing pedigree (BTCC). BMW is also not just luxury brand of some other congolgermante either, they are their own thing with a lot more range in the models and between them.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 11:32 amOK so 40k 330i and 100k m3 doesn't follow suit?golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 11:27 am

My point is mainly that IMO the "price" is justified. A 50k civic is the same thing as a 100k m3 IMO both got a lot more expensive.golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 11:48 amno because BMW is a premium brand. A 37k Gt86 with brembos is a bit more of an argument IMO. RWD + real sports car built from ground up.

You should at least go in for a test drive to put it to rest.
That's why I'm saying it. Go drive the M2 to see if you even like it and if you can fit shit in it. And if you think you need the added practicality, ask them if they have any allocations for an M3.

thats the suspect. it was sent back to recon for TLC and to refit the hardtop rear shell. suspected PO re-installed incorrectly. Also the rear tires where terribled cupped and dont appear to have been rotated in 20k miles. Theyve been replaced as they dont match the unused OE spare.
No one ever rotates the 5th spare properly on these types of cars.

But to max's point, a $50k civic can exist if a $100k m3 exists. The m3 has enough one off shit, CF, crazy options/color/unicorn specs to justify its price.
Best if you track against inflation:
1980s e30 msrp was ~15k and a hot e30 m3 was $35,000.. ($98k inflation adjusted 87 to 24)
mk1 1984/85 vw golf ~ $4k , the hot GTI model was $8400 (23,4k)
1987 Civic SI was $6600. (18,3k)
So to points the hot econo shitbox hatches have nearly doubled compared to inflation while the m3 has remained a steady value on pace with it.
Honda is reaching beyond what the original SI/Type R was. But the new thing is good and better than days of old... and the market sets the price/value. people buy and love the thing.

thats what grinds my gears. the shit that was designed to be obtainable is no longer obtainable. Hence, if im looking at a $50k fucking egg, im cross shopping a highly depreciated M car. They both are fucking expensive.
